STAR WARS

I love Star Wars. I have seen it numerous times. One summer in high school I watched the original three every weekend.
Star Wars was created by writer / producer / director George Lucas during the 1970’s. This epic trilogy began with the film Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope), which was released on May 25, 1977, by 20th Century Fox.
The film became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, spawning five more feature films developed by George Lucas and an Expanded Universe of his films, which includes three spin-off films, five television series and an extensive collection of licensed books, comics, video games, action figures, trading cards, card games, backpacks, Lego sets and other products, all of which are set within a fictional “galaxy far, far away.”
The characters commonly interact with fantastic creatures of many different types from numerous planetary systems within the Star Wars galaxy. Star Wars uses supernatural elements such as magic, Jedi knights, witches, and princesses that are related to characters found in fairy tales and other epic stories.
The film series spans the events of two generations.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

Battlestar Galactica first aired in September 1978 on ABC Television in the United States. Battlestar Galactica was the story of a human society in another part of the universe waging a war with a robotic foe known as the Cylons. In the beginning of the series, the Cylons launch a sneak attack against the twelve human colonies. The Cylons wiped out all but a handful of humans who manage to barely escape in whatever spaceships can carry them.
It was believed that only one of twelve Battlestars (military war ships) constructed by the twelve human colonies survived, until the Battlestar Pegasus was found. The Battlestar Galactica represents the Colonial planet Caprica, and is crewed mostly by Capricans.
The Galactica; commanded by Commander Adama; is kind of an aircraft carrier in space. It leads the convoy; a ragtag fleet; away from the remains of the Colonies with the hope of seeking refuge on a legendary and distant planet known as Earth.
The series was cancelled at the end of its single year on the air.
Less than a year later, a sequel to Battlestar Galactica known as Galactica: 1980 was attempted and ran briefly.
Several years later, a third television incarnation of Battlestar Galactica was aired in December 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel. More mature and dark in tone than the original, this two part mini-series revisited the opening storyline of the original series with some significant changes. This time, the Cylons were robotic but could appear as humans, and they are not simply an alien threat, but were originally created by the humans of the Twelve Colonies.
Again, the new series builds on the premise of the ragtag fleet fleeing the Cylons, but is less aimed at campy fun and is a more focused on dramatic themes. The series did so well in the UK, that at the time of its premier in the United States it was announced that a second season was already being written.

HEROES

Heroes is created by Tim Kring, which premiered on NBC on September 25, 2006. The show tells the story of several people who “thought they were like everyone else... until they woke with incredible abilities” such as telepathy, time travel and flight. These people soon realize they have a role in preventing a catastrophe and saving mankind.
The series loosely follows the writing style of American comics by doing short, multi-episode story arcs that build upon a larger, more encompassing arc. Even with small story arcs, the story moves forward.
Re-writing super hero folklore is a daunting task . . . let's see how well they do.

LOST

Lost is television series that follows the lives of a group of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, somewhere in the South Pacific.
The show was created by J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, the show runner, and is filmed primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii.
The pilot episode was first broadcast on September 22, 2004. Since then, two seasons have aired and a third began on October 4, 2006.
Because of its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming in Hawaii, the series is one of the most expensive on television.
A critical and popular success, Lost garnered an average of 15.5 million viewers per episode on ABC during its first year, and won numerous industry awards including the Emmy Award for outstanding drama series in 2005 and best American import at the British Academy Television Awards also in 2005.

STAR TREK
Without Star Trek there would be no Star Wars. Think about it, Star Trek paved the way for the sci-fi’s future.
The Star Trek universe was created by Gene Roddenberry is the setting of six television programs including the original 1966 Star Trek, in addition to ten feature films (with an eleventh in pre-production), dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and other fan stories, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas.
In the Star Trek"universe," humanity developed faster-than-light space travel following a post-apocalyptic period in the mid-21st century. Later, humans united with other sentient species of the galaxy to form the United Federation of Planets. As a result of alien intervention and science, humanity largely overcame many Earth-bound frailties and vices by the twenty-third century.
Star Trekstories usually depict the adventures of humans and aliens beings who serve in the Federation's Starfleet.
The protagonists are essentially altruists whose ideals are sometimes only imperfectly applied to the dilemmas presented in the series. The conflicts and political dimensions of Star Trek form allegories for contemporary cultural realities.
Out of all the Star Trek Series, the following 3 were my favorite:
Star Trek: The Original Series (1966–1969)

Star Trek debuted in the United States on NBC on September 8, 1966. The show, starring William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk (originally James R. Kirk), told the tale of the crew of the starship Enterprise and that crew's five-year mission "to boldly go where no man has gone before."
In its first two seasons it was nominated for Emmy Awards as Best Dramatic Series. After only three seasons, the show was canceled and the last episode aired on June 3, 1969.
The series subsequently became popular in reruns, and a cult following developed, complete with fan conventions.
Originally aired as simply Star Trek, it has in recent years become known as Star Trek: The Original Series or as Classic Trek – distinguishing it from its sequels and the franchise as a whole.
Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973–1974)
Star Trek: The Animated Series was produced by Filmation and ran for two seasons. Most of the original cast performed the voices of their characters from The Original Series (the character of Chekov did not appear) as well as many of the original series’ writers like DC Fontana.
Larger and more exotic alien landscapes and lifeforms were featured, however animation and soundtrack quality, with the liberal re-use of shots and musical cues as well as occasional animation errors, has detracted from the reputation of the series. Although originally sanctioned by Paramount (who became the owners of the Star Trek franchise following its acquisition of Desilu in 1967), the series is not considered to be canon (see Star Trek canon).
Even so, elements of the animated series have been used by writers in later live-action series and movies (e.g. Kirk’s middle name, Tiberius, made official in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country), and elements thus incorporated are canon. TAS came back to television in the mid-1980s on the children's cable network Nickelodeon, and in the early 1990s on cable network Sci-Fi Channel and was released to DVD in 2006.
Star Trek: Enterprise (2001–2005)
Star Trek: Enterprise (originally aired as Enterprise), produced from 2001-2005, is a prequel to the other Star Trek series.
The pilot episode takes place ten years before the founding of the Federation, about one hundred years before the original Star Trek series.
The series depicts the exploration of space by the crew of the Earth starship Enterprise. Commanded by Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), Enterprise is able to go farther and faster than any human vessel had previously gone. Enterprise showed the origins of several features that would become common in the sequel series, such as the inventing of new technologies, primarily the static warp bubble, and first contact with new species, such as the Klingons.
For the first two seasons Enterprise was episodic, like the original series and The Next Generation. During the third and fourth seasons, the series used long story arcs spanning several episodes at a time.

Favorite Comic Book Heroes:

BATMAN

Batman is by far one of my favorite superheros. He is not of afraid of his consequences and answers to no one. Quite the opposite of his respected friend and colleague, Superman.
Batman (originally referred to as the Bat-Man) is a DC Comics fictional superhero who first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939. Batman was co-created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger. Batman has since become one of the world's most recognized superheroes.
Batman was the first ‘live action’ superhero (1943 and 1949). Before Superman (1948 and 1950) graced the screen there was Batman.
Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne, a billionaire industrialist, playboy, and philanthropist. Witnessing the murder of his parents as a child leads him to train himself to the peak of physical and intellectual perfection, don a bat-themed costume, and fight crime. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess superhuman powers or abilities; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess and intimidation in his war on crime.

SUPERMAN
Superman is a comic book superhero, originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics, in 1932. The character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938).
With a premise that taps into adolescent fantasy, Superman is born Kal-El on the alien planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father moments before the planet's destruction. Adopted and raised by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent, and imbued with a strong moral compass.
Upon reaching maturity the character develops superhuman abilities, resolving to use these for the benefit of humanity. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.
Superman is today widely considered to be both one of the most famous and popular comic book superheroes of all time, and an American cultural icon.
