Everyone who likes independent films.OHFF Announces the 2007 Winners!   As previously announced, The Orlando Hispanic Film Festival (OHFF) first year Festival received more than 100 submissions from filmmakers around the world with 50 films screened during the Festival weekend at The Plaza Theatre.   The Festival kicked off on Thursday, October 18 with a warm and encouraging message from Mayor Buddy Dyer congratulating OHFF for the multicultural event as host to local, national and international directors and to the Central Florida community.   The Feature Documentary Dream Havana directed by Gary Marks opened the Festival along with the Florida Premiere screening of El Cimarron, directed by Ivan Dariel Ortiz.  International star Fernando Allende arrived with wife Maria greeting the fans and media present at The Plaza Theatre. Shortly after the start of El Cimarron, star of the film, Pedro Telemaco made his entrance along with Executive Producer Ivan Gonzalo Ortiz and Co-Producer Myrna Landron. Telemaco, Allende and Ortiz all participated in a Q&A after the premiere.In all, over 23 directors made the event memorable with their presence and their insights during the Q&A after their films.   The Lexington Hotel on E. Colonial Dr. was the official hotel partner of the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival. District 5 at the Lexington hosted both the opening night and Closing night parties sponsored by Don Q and Downtown Orlando. Film festival goers mingled with filmmakers, panelists and entertainment industry professionals. Houlihans Food & Spirits honored the filmmakers and VIP guests with a cocktail party sponsored by Don Q on Friday October 19.   Barnes & Noble was host to panelists and visitors of the OHFF as two of the panels were presented at their bookstore on E. Colonial Drive.Community leaders, sponsors of OHFF, media and independent film lovers showed their support to the filmmakers by enjoying a variety of films which delighted the audience during this historical first year.OHFF announced the WINNERS for the 2007 Film Festival on Friday night ceremony on October 20.Best Feature Film went to Cuba Libre directed by Rai Garcia.Best Documentary went to Dream Havana directed by Gary Marks.Best Short Film went to La Mal-tratada: Historia de Maria directed by Nacho Ruiperez Fernandez.Best Short Doc went to Desarrollo Humano directed by David Munoz.Best Director went to Tracks of Color directed by Federico Castelluccio.Best Actor Male went to Guy Lecluyse from Pleure en Silence directed by John G. Biggs.Best Actor Female went to Kira Miro from Cuba Libre directed by Rai Garcia.Best Cinematography went to Amparo Padro Gomez from La Mal-tratada: Historia de Maria directed by Nacho Ruiperez Fernandez.Best Art Direction went to La Mal-tratada: Historia de Maria directed by Nacho Ruiperez Fernandez.Best Score went to Michael Reola from The Ballad of Breaking George directed by Guershon Moreno.Best Ensemble Cast went to Efren Ramirez & Kris Kristofferson from Crossing the Heart directed by Steven Hood.Best Screenplay went to Picassos Garden written by Jose Morgado.The audience voted for their favorite film and…The Audience Award goes to Gringo Wedding directed by Tas Salini.OHFF will continue to offer seminars and workshops during the year building up to the 2008 Film Festival.   Continue to visit the website for additional information and photos taken at the event. www.ohfilmfestival.com
