Eala Dubh (yä'lä deuv), Gaelic for black swan, was formed by Dawn Alicia and Francisco J. RodrÃguez with the idea of covering songs with a Celtic, gothic, or ethereal touch in a basic format: piano, lush pads, and a soprano voice.
Francisco—keyboardist of the melodic rock band Nexx—moved from Spain to Rhode Island in 2006. Meanwhile, in California, Dawn—vocalist, keyboardist, and former bassist for the metal band Pit Bull—was also planning a move to New England, while searching for a musical collaborator. She answered Francisco’s ad for a vocalist, having discovered their mutual eclectic tastes in music and Celtic roots.
They’ve finally merged their talents, playing stylized versions of songs by Evanescence, Loreena McKennitt, Enya, and others.
