I moved to SoCal in 2003 (Long Beach)and then L.A. in October 2006.
I am seeing a girl that I used to work with. Her name is Carrie and she is awesome. She is, however, now living in San Diego...this is far..
What I do...
I am a musician, I write songs, play guitar, and scream violently for a punk derived thrash band called Raised Under Reagan. I listen to a very diverse selection of music ranging from metal, hardcore, and punk, to jazz, world, and bluegrass.
In my day-job I work in advertising and marketing...that's irony for you. The company I work for is Internationalist Marketing/The Booth.net. I mostly sit behind a computer all day and compile lists of upcoming shows from a variety of resources. From these lists I figure out which demographics are at what events and locations in order to promote the events and products of our clients. It's actually a lot better than I make it sound. In addition to that I do general office administration work.
My other, other job is as a graphic designer, website administrator, owner/founder of SmartCore LA/OC. This is currently in the construction phase. This site is intended to act as a community underground music resource, a zine, a distro (maybe even a label eventually), and ad space/promoting service for labels/bands/venues/etc. There will be numerous free services available to independent artists and paid services as well for those with a larger budget. We also accept trades. Given the people who are affiliated with this site, it will be primarily centered around punk/hardcore artists. But it's not limited to that, enveloping everything from indie (real indie), metal, industrial, experimental...pretty much anything underground/DIY. If you are interested in the site...getting involved/promoting/advertising/selling/etc. contact me.
About me personally:
I am nice... but not exactly "friendly". I'm a pretty quiet person. Not very sociable. This isn't to say that I'm anti-social, I just prefer the company of small, close groups over parties and I would rather be surrounded with books than a bunch of people I don't know. I get social anxiety in large groups, but not on stage, go figure (I suppose it's my theatre upbringing). I have a love/hate relationship with the rest of humanity.
I live in Silverlake...near Hollywood. It's kind of cool and sucks at the same time. There is an endless supply of self-important morons to loathe and ridicule.
People suck everywhere, but at least there's stuff to do.
I'm a pretty cautious person. I like to think things through and weigh all the options and consequences of each. I find extroverted and spontaneous people alternately entertaining and admirable and brash and annoying.
I don't like it when people talk without thinking and when people state hearsay, speculation, and rumor as fact. I wish more people would read.
My interests are politics, psychology, logic, and philosophy. My favorite non-fiction writers are Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Friedrich Nietzche. For fiction I like Vonnegut, Mark Twain, Fyodor Dostevsky, George Orwell, Franz Kafka, John Steinbeck, and Ernest Hemingway.
I think Jesus was a pretty cool guy, even if he wasn't the "son of God."
I'm a conspiracy-theorist who thinks most conspiracy theorists are full of shit.
I don't like people who raise their voice to make a point.
I think we live in a brain-washed society where the people are too lazy, complacent, or afraid to examine facts that are right in front of them. We do not suffer from a lack of information, just a lack of knowledge and compassion.
Unfortunately, popular opinion carries more weight than facts or evidence.
I'm a skeptic.
I'm an idealistic cynic...that keeps me awake at night.
I'm distrustful of religions, superstition, pop-psychology, new-age metaphysics, and pseudoscience.
I'm also hesitant to subscribe to a particular "school of thought", dogma, or ideology preferring to draw inspiration and ethics from observation, experience, and compassion
Instead, I prefer to just think of myself politically as "left". And I don't mean democrat left. Hilary Clinton is not a liberal. There is no such thing as making government "nicer". As long as people profit from suffering, there will be suffering. For that matter, as long as there is "profit" there will be suffering. As long as there is "power", there will be oppression. We can not "reform" our government. We can not "reform" capitalism. It must be destroyed.
I dislike people who are unable to view the world outside of themselves.
I believe we have a responsibility to our fellow humans as a whole regardless of nationality.
I believe that justice has no borders and salutes no flag.
I believe in consistency...if something is not consistent, it is flawed somehow. Reevaluate your truths.
I believe people should act according to their ethics, not form ethics around their actions.
I like cubist, expressionist, surreal, and absurd/DaDa art (Picasso, George Grosz, Duchamp)and "lowbrow" pop artists (check Juxtapoz magazine). I am especially drawn to communist propaganda imagery so the work of Shepard Fairy appeals to me.
I can be very anal-retentive about grammar, punctuation, and spelling. For instance, please learn the differences between "their", "there", and "they're". Also "you're" and "your". It's not hard. Look it up. Anyone who finished 5th Grade should know the difference. Additionally, it is "supposedly" not "supposively". "Probably" (derived from the word "probable") not "prolly". I really hate net-speak, so any mention of "lol", or "ur", etc. will probably not be taken very seriously...if at all. And remember, adverbs are your friends...
I believe that money, borders, and political systems are not real.
I find the television and the radio to be mostly insulting and infuriating and am prone to shouting at them.
You are The Hermit
Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.
The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.
The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.
The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.
