There was always music listened to in our apartement in Rosengård, Malmö, where I lived my first years. From the stereo came the voices of Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, and at the big parties we listened to Fela Kuti, Miriam Makeba, Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye. There was always a lot of music! But neither my gambian father nor my swedish mother practised any artistic activity whatsoever. Actually I can..t recall anyone at all in my family working with music and could guide me through my artistic choices of life! In Värnamo, where we moved to, there were no theatres, no museums, no concerthall and definitly not a jazzclub. Definitly not! But there was a dancecompany and the municipal musicschool, and so I learned to play the violin and I sang in the choir. But most of all I was dancing, like always (jazz- and contemporary)! So, the way to were I stand right now has been everything but straight!I studied at the National Academy of Acting in Stockholm between 1996-2000. I..ve been taken part in different plays at theatres, such as the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, Uppsala Town Theatre, Stockholm Musicdramatic Ensemble and Stockholm Town Theatre. I also played one of the main characters in a dramaseries at SVT(Swedish Television) for two years. I started singing jazz when I got a part(!) as a jazzsinger in the picture "Små och Stora män" in 1995. And besides acting I sang in different bands and orchestras, with music such as blues, house, nu-jazz, soul, funk. In other words; music that made my soul, mind, heart and spirit happy.The album "Beppes byrålåda"( Beppes drawer) is the result of a cooperation I had with the wonderful arranger and bassplayer Patrik Boman, the lovely arranger Anders Ekdahl, the great pianist Janne Lundgren and the remarcable drummer Marcus Lewin! As you can hear, there..s some more really fantastic musicians on that album! "But beautiful" was released on "Spice of life" in Japan last fall.
