I'm interested in getting this (insert expletive here) computer to do what I need it to do. On several occasions my hard drive has been close to sprouting wings. Seriously though, my main interest is in trying to achieve a balance between my friends and family, my social work, and making music. The best part, for me, is that the three are not mutually exclusive. I would also like to help other sick/disabled people make music. It is the great Healer after all. I would like to produce an outdoor Invisible Illness/Medicinal Cannabis/Natural Source Health Care festival. It would feature live music all day and night, a place for the kids, an information/education area,, healthy food and drink a plenty, a place to chill, etc. No booze. Just Buds. If it flies locally I'd like to see it go on the road. It's feasible.

MUSIC. I can't imagine my life without music. I am not Me without it.rock n' roll
Pimp My Profile
It is in every aspect of my life. I've been playing drums since I was in grade five, I have eight years formal training, and I am a trained audio engineer. I was in the music business for about a minute (As Little Steven says!). Actually, it was eight years or so back in the nineties. (See pictures.) before my health tanked my career. I'm working hard to get back behind a kit and a recording desk. Wish me luck.
Whatever I listen too, it always comes back to the Blues for me. It is a healing force in my life. Most of the music I listen to wouldn't exist without the blues. None of us would be doing what we do. I admire too many blues musicians to be able to list here. I started with the names I found attached to the songs my favorite rock n' roll bands were recording and went from there. And I haven't look back since.
"it used to be Called Rthymn and Blues. Now it's just the Blues. Somewhere along the way we lost the Rthymn." B.B. King.

I listen to Little Stevens' Underground Garage every week. Where else can I hear the Rhonettes, the Buzzcocks, Little Walter, The Charms , the Ramones, and Nancy Sinatra all in the same set! THIS IS REAL ROCK N' ROLL RADIO PEOPLE! Rock n' roll is back, baby!
There isn't nearly enough room in my music section to fit in everything I'm interested in. I listen to everything. Everything. Rock/Blues/Country/Jazz/World/Celtic/Bluegrass... But I came up playing Blues and Rock n' Roll, so that music dominates my page. Rather than run off a list of my favorite artists I've posted a few vids as examples because

I went thru my Rip It Up stage earlier in life. Had some seriously good times with some seriously cool people. Nothing criminal or anything. Just lots of crazy fun. Crazy LOUD fun.But I've had to chill a bit because of the health, so I need new ways to have fun. I'm open to suggestions.
Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, my goal is to maximize both the quality and amount of time I spend with the people I care about. It's all about the PEOPLE for me.

I'd like to meet:
A recording studio owner who knows how to use his gear. Seriously. And one who won't take a studio tour thru the control room when I'm in the middle of a mix! Breathe... Okay, I'm alright now. I would like to meet: His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Bif Naked, Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty, Frank Beard (and Dusty and the Reverand Billy G.), Butch Trucks (and the rest of the Allman Brothers Band), David Bowie, Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke, Danny Serafin, Shel Talmy, Kit Lambert, Neil Young, Neil Peart (and Alex and Geddy), the Trailer Park Boys, Terry and Dale Bozzio, Alanis Morissette, Harvey Kietel, Little Steven Van Zant, Nick Mason, Alan Parsons, Sir George Martin, Les Paul, Ray Ayotte... I'm still thinking... "Normal" people make me nervous. I'm a little bit bent, and so are most of the people I know, but not in a weird or hurtful way. When it comes to who I would like to meet, I'm not looking for clones of myself. I'm also not looking to "date". I'm looking for people to swap stories with, Good, Bad or Otherwise. (I have plenty of each.) My disability often keeps me isolated so this is my Window on the World. I've spent long periods out of touch, so now when I go out into the world I feel like a Caveman in a Cadillac. Honestly, I don't know a blog from a blackberry. I want to know everything about everything. So tell me what you do. Especially what you do to take a load off. That's why we're all here, after all.
To help take a load off.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic, complex pain syndrome involving widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and other symptoms for which the cause is currently unknown. Recent research has strongly suggested the involvement of the central nervous system in the development of fibromyalgia, along with a suspected genetic predisposition.FM can exist by itself, but is usually accompanied by a primary or secondary chronic medical condition. FM affects 5% of the population with approximately 90% of those diagnosed being women between the ages of 20-50 years. However, men, adolescents and children are also diagnosed with this syndrome. The symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary considerably from person to person. This condition is referred to as a "syndrome" as it does not fit the criteria for a distinctive disease process. For purposes of this handbook, the term FM also refers to fibromyalgia syndrome.Unfortunately, it often takes a long time before a person is correctly diagnosed with FM. Average time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis is five years. People with FM often undergo a series of medical investigations and tests over many years before being diagnosed. Often this delay in diagnosis is due to the over-investigation of multiple individual symptoms that the patient presents with in the general physician's office and the failure to determine the collection of symptoms as part of the larger picture of FM.THE BASIC SYMPTOMSMajor complaints associated with FM are widespread pain, fatigue and non-restorative sleep. People with FM may have mild, moderate, or severe symptoms and these symptoms may fluctuate through all degrees of severity or stay constant.Currently there are no diagnostic tests available to prove you have FM. Your diagnosis must be based on your history of symptoms, and the presence of active tender points specifically located on both sides of your body. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT AN EXTENSIVE HISTORY AND A THOROUGH PHYSICAL EXAM BE PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED MEDICAL PRACTIONER IN ORDER TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE FYBROMYALGIA. (lack of which, in my case, resulted in a permanent, multi-condition disability.)WHAT CAUSES FM?Progress is being made to identify a cause for FM and much useful evidence has been gathered from the research to date, but no definitive answers have yet been found.New research has shown various biochemical anomolies in people with FM. Additional research is also being conducted in many other areas, such as neurotransmitters, brain imaging, immune system functioning and hormones. Medical researchers have just begun to untangle the truths about this life-altering syndrome.IS THIS A NEW CONDITION?FM is not new - the condition has been around for many years. In the late 1980's the American College of Rheumatology sponsored a landmark study that identified criteria with which to better study patients with the symptoms of FM. These Criteria for the Classification of Fibromyalgia were published in the peer reviewed medical journal Arthritis and Rheumatism, Vol. 33, No. 2, Feb. 1990, and defines diagnostic criteria as:1. History of widespread pain in all four body quadrants for a minimum of three months.2. Pain in 11 of 18 tender points on digital palpation.Tender points are anatomical locations that have reproducable tenderness upon palpation. Often the person with FM does not feel pain in these locations unless they are stimulated. Other areas can be tender as well. Some physicians accept a diagnosis of FM with fewer than 11 tender points if a definitive history as well as several associated symptoms are present.WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF FM?The following list of symptoms associated with FM have been gathered from a variety of peer reviewed medical journals. They are listed in no specific order. The hallmark symptoms of FM are pain, fatigue and non-restorative sleep.WIDESPREAD PAIN.Often described as aching, burning, throbbing, gnawing, shooting, tingling. It can be localized, generalized, can feel like muscle spasm and can be scattered throughout. It may be migratory, with pain presenting in one or more areas on one day and other areas on another day.FATIGUE.The fatigue of FM is much more than just being tired. FM sufferers have described it as feeling like all their energy has been drained away. It can be so profound that it interferes with even the simplest daily activities. Sometimes the fatigue can come on suddenly for no apparent reason and can be very debilitating. Short periods of exertion can require long periods of rest to recuperate.NON-RESTORATIVE SLEEP/SLEEP DEPRIVATION. (Pain aside, this together with the Fatigue create the biggest challenges for me. It is so much more difficult to deal with the other symptoms when one is tired all the item, particularly when dealing with Fatigue over a period of years.)Sleep difficulties can be described as not being able to fall asleep, frequent night awakenings, unrefreshing sleep or waking up feeling like you haven't slept. Many people with FM also report frequent unusual nightmares and symptoms of restless leg syndrome. (Also, not being able to stay asleep, or, as often happens in my case, not being able to sleep at all, always being partially awake.)Persons with FM may experience some of the following additional symptoms, but please remember that not everyone with FM will experience them all and each case is individual:MORNING STIFFNESS.Can last for 1/2 - 2 hours. Sometimes relieved by heat, massage, often goes away with activity, worsened by cold environment. ( I perform a 20 minute stretch routine daily. If I do not, within two or three days I am unable to move without great pain and will become bed-ridden.)COGNITIVE AND MEMORY PROBLEMS. (When one cannot rely on ones' body, one relies on ones' mind. When cognitive function becomes impaired as well, you're in DEEP TROUBLE.)Many people with FM report lapses in memory and concentration, as well as cognitive dysfunction, spatial disorientation and communication difficulties.
IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME. (This condition in combination with an umbilical hernia which was left untreated for two years, caused the most severe pain I have yet experienced and serious difficulty eating. I lost 54 lbs. in three months this fall and almost died. Surgery to repair the hernia was successful and I am recovering.)Constipation, diarrhea, frequent abdominal pain, abdominal gas and nausea represent a constellation of symptoms frequently found in many FM patients.TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DYSFUNCTION SYNDROME.This syndrome, sometimes referred to as simply TMJ, causes tremendous jaw and head pain in some FM patients. Most of the problems associated with this condition are thought to be related to the muscles and ligaments surrounding the joint and not necessarily the joint itself.OTHER SYMPTOMS.Various symptoms have been associated with FM, such as: headaches (tension or migraine); numb, tingling or burning feelings (especially in hands and feet); feeling spaced out; disequilibrium; muscle weakness; intolerance of bright lights; intolerance of alcohol; depression; anxiety; mood swings; sinus and other allergies; weight change, usually gain; carpal tunnel syndrome; dry eyes and mouth; cold hands and feet; irritable bladder; heart palpitations; mitral valve prolapse; chest muscle pain (non-cardiac); unexplained rashes, sometimes accompanied by severe itching.

Books:
I've had a lot of time on my hands over the last couple of decades and I've read more books than I could possibly remember. I like to write as well. I write fantasy/adventure type stories and I'm working on a book. I read more non-fiction than fiction. Books for me have been a window into all the places in life I couldn't get to. I've spent my life learning about the Past to try and better understand the Present so I can have a better Future. . I've also been getting into more audio books lately.

Joseph Campbells' definition of a hero is "someone who sacrifices themselves to something greater than themselves." A hero doesn't have to be larger than life. Regular people can be heroes too.
People like...The staff and member volunteers at my compassion society. To a person they are all ill and to a person they have freely donated countless hours so the members can have a safe place , a community, where they can come for fun or support or whatever it is that they need.
People like... The members of my compassion society. Just to face another day is an heroic act for many.
People like... The minister and the congregation at the church I attend. People who don't have a lot themselves but who managed to make 12,000 sandwiches for the homeless. The important point here is that heroes are People. And that you don't have to have much in life to be able to Make A Difference. There is plenty of money to be made exploiting the poor. There is no money in helping the poor...
