About Me

Soulful Terrain was started as a project of various musical styles and ideas by Jason Williams. Being a lover of many styles of music prompted him to dive deep into a band that would break traditional boundaries. By combining elements of Rock, Jazz, Celtic influences and other styles of music Soulful Terrain expresses life's wondrous possibilities.

With the release of our new CD "The Days of Truth & Hope" we hope to touch listeners with our multi-stylistic music. People sometimes ask, what kind of music do you play? My response is always something different because music to me is totally open. A musician friend once said to me "Every song I write is like a page in my diary, it was the way I was feeling at the moment I wrote it." I think that's one of the best ways to describe what we do. Music is suppose to allow us to be ourselves and tell the stories that revolve around our lives. As musicians we should always be expanding and growing, because as people aren't we always doing the same? Life isn't 2 dimensional, so why should music be?

Tired of the flavor of the month music, Soulful Terrain was a way to be completely free of the boundaries imposed by FM stations. After their first indie self release Pictures In-Between, ST begin writing The Days of Truth & Hope, a mostly instrumental album that really was different than most of the instrumental releases of the time. Focusing on different genres, the album struck a chord with listeners who liked being transported musically to different times and places. Never happy to rest too long in the 2000s, ST began writing their new project called Astoria, with new drummer Van Hunsberger. This project is a labor of love that ST hopes will be the bands swan song, the album that will really define them in their own space and touch people with the emotional content.

Reviews from CPR Vol 2.Soulful Terrain's awesome, Celtic-infused "Secrets in the Valley" is a heartwarming praise tune with emotion and passion, and featuring gifted guitar work from Jason Williams. - IN News Dispatch & The Midwest Beat Review

Soulful Terrains Secrets in the Valley is another Celtic-laced song that features some wailing guitar from bandleader Jason Williams, fiery drums from Van Hunsberger, and guest appearances from Dave Bainbridge and Frank Van Essen of Iona. This song compliments the leadoff cut nicely, and flows into some of the following cuts as well. The Phantom Tollbooth
