11th Hour Films

DANGER: Films under pressure

About Me

This is Joseph from 11th Hour Films. I want to tell you a little bit about what 11th Hour Films is, what we believe and what we do. 11th Hour Films started out as a lark, a passtime between family and friends who loved the arts and making films. We had a couple of old retail cameras, a couple of old PCs with some basic editing software and the will to learn what we were doing. ...In the beginning we read a lot about films...we watched a lot of films, and we made films whenever we could, entering contests here and there...mostly the 48 hour variety, the kind that set a time limit of forty-eight hours to write, shoot, produce and burn a short film. These particular events honed our skills to a butter-knife edge. Seriously, it really did serve us well. When you have a deadline like that, you're forced to produce and think on your feet. A lot of gems (and turds) have been a direct result of those types of events. We still compete in them...if your reading this and think "Gee, that would be a lot of fun to try!", well, 1) you've probably been diagnosed with some personality disorder at some point in your life and 2) you enjoy a good challenge. Either way, if you think it would be fun, contact us. We're always looking for defective people that want to be involved. It's a personal dream of mine to form a non-profit production company of other like-minded peeople to create intelligent film and art with...ok, tangent...where was I? Oh right...we made films...yes, we did...and we became addicted...it was beautiful...it was awful...it felt right...sooooo right. ...and the more films we made, the more we wanted to make. We needed more outlets. We found quite a few online. There are numerous film festivals going on at any one point, so we entered a few. ...and we made the jump to more professional gear...a more functional and advanced camera, sound equipment and editing software. We still have the old PCs, but now we also have an iMac with the FCP Suite of video and audio editing software...at that has opened up so many more possibilities in regards to polishing our work. So here we are now, a little more educated on the do's and don'ts of making film...and a lot more dedicated to making our work more intelligent, entertaining and thought-provoking. Like music and the spoken word, film is an emotion based medium. You can create joy and sorrow with an image, a sound. You can change peoples perspectives, their viewpoints...their lives with a well constructed scene, a script, a piece of music. These are our goals for the future. In fact, that is our mission statement...yes we have one... it's "Creating a better world through film" We truly believe that it's possible and we aren't alone, and that's the most beautiful part of it. By forming up together, through art, we can make our communities and our world a more peaceful and safe place where everyone has a voice...where everyone is looked after and given a chance to thrive. Besides making our short and intelligent films, part of our mission is to showcase non and not for profit organizations that share our belief in the community. The groups that serve and assist the people. The organizations fighting for our rights, helping the under-served populations, fighting poverty or working for environmental or social justice. We hope to create a niche for ourselves where we can make a comfortable living and serve our community doing the things we love most: The arts! When your work is your bliss, it ceases to be work and changes your perspectives on everything around you in a positive manner. Seek your bliss...we did. BIG NEWS!!!! In addition to making films I am now the new Director of Interactive Media for a local non-profit organization called TINCAN. For more information on what TINCAN is about and what we do, go to www.tincan.org. Check out our latest film 'Slapfight' below currently listed on Funny or Die...
