Temwa is a UK-based organisation that raises funds to implement community-based
projects in Malawi, southern Africa.
The first project is based in an area called Usisya, on the north shore of
Lake Malawi. This remote region of 56 villages has no electricity, no running
water and is severely affected by the AIDS epidemic. NGOs (non governmental
organisations) working in the region, as well as the local government, strongly
encouraged Temwa in the selection of this area, due to its strong need for
basic development.
Overseen by a project manager in Malawi, Temwa consists of a series of programmes
that are aimed at providing sustainable community-driven development in four
key areas:
• Health education
• Skills development
• Agriculture and irrigation
• Schools support
To fund its operations in Malawi, Temwa organises a variety of events in the
UK, ranging from club nights to street art exhibitions and pub quizzes to sponsored
cycles.
The majority of our regular events are club nights, which have been predominantly
held throughout Bristol, in a number of different venues.
So many DJs and musicians have also given their time and their talent for free
- too many to mention all of them. We&8217;d like to pass
on a massive thanks to all of the artists who have ever supported these events,
your time and talent is really appreciated. We&8217;d also like to say a big
thank all the venues in Bristol who have given us their space to use for free,
namely: Native, the Thekla, The Level, The Park and the Tobacco Factory.
These fundraising activities pay for the majority of the operational costs
in Malawi. These events keep the projects running.
