2003 saw Kelz link up with Trz - and The Souljah Clique projects were born. The Souljah Clique name was based on a poem written by Kelz and was the first recording between Kelz and Trz. The first official release for the Souljah Clique was the L.P Unsigned Heroez - featuring Rodney P, Sirplus, Oshin (57th dynasty), K'ners and CLG. A video was made by Oshin for Stand Tall, which emphasises the positivity behind Kelz's music. The Stand Tall video was featured alongside Immortal Technique on the Independent Hype Volume 3 DVD, which covered Hiphop scenes on both sides of the pond. To stay true to the ethos of getting the music to the people, The Souljah Clique released The first of the Baggamics series of mixtapes, representing Bristol talent. Baggamics 2 followed up on this concept and dropped in 2005, to critical acclaim from the music press. The Souljah Clique have also featured on various mixtapes such as Uk runnings, The sickness mix-tapes and dark & Cold volumes 1 and 2.
2007 PRESS RELEASE
“INCREASE THE PEACE” PRESENTED BY KELZ
The Increase the Peace album is intended to raise awareness of violence, anti-social behaviour; gun and knife crime in the community. It is a collaboration of emcees, singers, DJ’s and poets who have gladly given their services to support this message to Increase the Peace.“Embrace your anger with love, I know it’s hard… Mistakes usually make themselves present at the start. I strive to be a peaceful man and take away the pain, With poets, singers and real beginners who all have a story to tell, So Increase the Peace, let love never cease, from your host peeps… Uncle Kelz”The album began as a concept to raise awareness in the community by producing a weapon amnesty album without glamourising the kind of weapons used. ‘Increase the Peace’ is an affirmation to the usual gun amnesty projects you’ve heard of in the past and hopefully will have a positive impact on the whole community and all of those who listen.Increase the Peace features an array of unsigned artists hosted by Kelz including: Trz, Infz, CLG, Terminal, Sirplus, Rudy Lee, Relly, Turroe, Sausa, Balance, Sanchez Di Beige, Shade, Social Conscience and many more.Funded by UnLtd, this album is aimed at breaking down stereo types, increasing awareness of crime in the community and creating positive solutions as opposed to the negative clichés rap music usually provides.
"Bristol's veteran street poet...In Britain's old skool Kelz is at least a Prefect, Damn rudeboy, should probably even be House Captain of the whole south west." James MacNally, HIP HOP CONNECTIONS magazine - 2/2/2002
