Jack B. Burness

About Me

Jacks music has taken him all over the UK playing folk clubs, bars and festivals. A founder member of THE CORNERBOYS duo with GRAHAME ’SHIPCOTE’ ANDERSON of JUMPIN HOT CLUB fame and now playing solo gigs. Jacks songs are often laced with dry humour and are usually of a semi autobiographical nature. Jack plays acoustic guitar and harmonica and has a fine, strong, expressive voice which he puts to good use during his two hour shows. His set list includes songs by John Prine, Mick Hanley, Richard Thompson, Boo Hewerdine, Gillian Welch, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Randy Newman, Van Morrison, Louden Wainwright III, Christie Moore and Shane MacGowan interlaced with his own fine compositions which sit very comfortably among such fine songwriting company.

Influences: As a songwriter I try not to be influenced, but I do admire British songwriters, Richard Thompson, Martin Stephenson, Jez Lowe, Boo Hewerdine, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore, Van Morrison. American songwriters, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Chris Smither, Joni Mitchell, John Prine, Louden Wainwright III, Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Gillian welch, Bruce Springsteen, good melodies and intelligent lyrics. When performing other peoples songs I try to interprate the songs in my own style. You have to be yourself when writing and performing. It took me a while to realise this.
