About Marin:
Marin Spivack is a new voice pioneering a new sound that combines folk, rock, jazz, reggae, groove, and R&B, along with psychedelic and ancient international flavors. Marin's music combines the depth and articulation of Jazz improvisations and harmonic structures, the warm grooves of reggae, international sounds of all kinds, the acoustic textures of folk, and the psychedelic atmospheres of classic rock with poetic lyrics. All this is a setting for story telling based on unusual and seasoned life experiences from a road less traveled.About these Songs
The songs on this page are a few selections from an ongoing writing, composing and recording project that I am working on. I play every instrument; saxophones, guitars, organ, bass, drums/pecussion, lyrics and vocals. I write from personal experience, abstracted impressions of lives lead or potentially lead, and insights recieved from human existance when possible. These recordings are early versions of a work in progress. More will follow soon.
"Bohemian Extraordinaire", is all true to a life that I lived. While living in Paris I made a decent living on the streets making pitches to cafe's, subways and open plazas with musicians of many nationalities. All the characters represented in the song are actual people, some of whom are now famous musicians like Madeliene Peyroux, who was a girl with a guitar with whom I played sometimes among so many other musicians around Rue St. Andre Des Artes. That life does not really exist in force like it used to in Paris or anywhere else, but maybe it will come back.
"Comin' Back to Me", I won't spoil that for you, listen and make your own meaning.
"Shining", is reminder to myself and anyone else who is interested, to stay in touch with the natural, brilliant peace of human consciousness. It's a very tough road to live through for so many of us, and the intensity of worldy influence can, in a very short time, lead one lifetimes away from the spring of spiritual vitality.
"Mem'ry of Summer Wine", is a song of love and regret. The passage of time does wear everything down to a smoothness of sorts, but some events in life gain a sharper and more painful power with age. This song also begs for a traditional jazz treatment, which is its origin.
