About Me

COLMAN BROTHERS
Mat (trombone) and Andrew (trumpet/flugelhorn) have been working together for over 7 years writing music for film, TV and other projects. At the moment they are writing a follow up to their massive hits ‘El Niño’ (featured on the award winning short film 'Bigboy_74') and 'She Who Dares' released on the Wah Wah 45s label. Both are busy musicians who have performed/recorded with jazz, pop, funk and soul musicians across Europe. Currently Mat can be seen with the Herbaliser and has just finished recording on their latest album. Andrew has just returned from the studio in Leeds recording his second quartet album to be released later this year.
El Niño (WahWah45s) - released December 06 - is the stunning debut release from Bristol based Colman Brothers and comes in Cha Cha and Big Band versions. Inspired by Peter Herbolzheimer RC&B, Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band and Dizzy Gillespie, El Niño is a perfectly formed 7-inch that sparkles with masterful solos from both Andrew on muted trumpet and Mat on trombone as well as rhodes from special guest Ruth Hammond.

She Who Dares (WahWah45s) - released December 07 - is the second exciting release from the Colman Brothers. The follow up to their massive dance floor hit El Niño continues with the Latin/jazz theme and comes in Big Band and Lounge versions. It perfectly captures the hip Herbolzheimer, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band sounds of the 60s and 70s and features outstanding solos from Andrew on Flugelhorn and once again special guest Ruth Hammond on Rhodes.

SHE WHO DARES FEEDBACK SO FAR.........

SHE WHO DARES - a horny delight, sounding right next to CBBB. Ennio Styles / Straightup.com/au Radio

Bridging the divide between the classic big band jazz of MPS and CBS and the more modern Latin jazz runnings of Schema and Rikky Tick, brothers Mat and Andrew Colman (winner of the Jazz Musician of the Year no less) bring a touch of class to the proceedings with this shuffling dancefloor swinger SHE WHO DARES. If you remember their last single EL NINO you’ll know that these won’t stick around for long, so chop, chop. 4/5 DJ Mag

Very Nice. Simon Harrison / Basic Soul Show

Two more cheeky barnstormers from the Colman Brothers guaranteed to give you the horn! Perry Hemus / Woodland Records

Two great musicians. Jacqui Dankworth / The Jazz

Fat on both sides, already a big one on Planeta Jazz! DJ Tiago Santos / www.oxigenio.fm

Killer new release from Wah Wah 45s in London. The Colman Brothers' second single is a brilliant piece of bossa tinged big band jazz, which nods heavily to the Francy Boland and Kenny Clarke albums of the early 70s. Seriously good stuff, make sure you check it! / Fat City Records

More quality gear from the WAH WAH label in the shape of this new 7" single from THE COLMAN BROTHERS. The boys follow up their EL NINO winner with SHE WHO DARES a floor-working jazz-funker that comes in 2 mixes, the original mix, and a more laidback Lounge Mix. One for the headz for sure! RETRO / Groovedis.com

Here's a tune that would make the Clarke Boland Big Band proud -- a sweet jazzy groover that sounds just like something off their classic Latin Kaleidoscope album for MPS! The main side is all jazzy and big band-- horn flourishes gliding beautifully over snapping rhythms that get a bit more beat-heavy on the lounge mix. / Dusty Groove

Trombone and Trumpet duo the Colman Brothers follow up their excellent EL NINO with another surefire dancefloor cracker in the shape of SHE WHO DARES, a bossa-jazz groover. With influencesranging from Peter Herbolzheimer, Francy Bolland and Kenny Clark, this is another horn fuelled joint that'll please both club and jazz heads alike. On the flip things get a bit more slinky with a lounge version of the same track - one for a late night bar session. / Picadilly Records Manchester

Wicked band! / Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show

Colman brothers are back with this true gem of a record. The big band bossa magic on the a-side will keep feet tappin' and hips swingin' all through the holiday season and well into 2008. The slightly moodier mix on the b-side is fine as well. Johan Edlund / Supasoul, Sweden

Colman Brothers, all killa, no filla!! wahwah support EAST guaranteed! Tom Weiland (Panoptikum/Seven Samurai) Vienna
