About Me

DEBUT ALBUM STOP, DROP, DANCE! AVAILABLE SOON!
PREVIEW TRACKS ONLINE NOW From the dark depths of Bristol’s legendary underground music scene come five beatnik students and one garden centre sales assistant, with a flair for crushing grooves and poignant lyricism that ignites on stage in a manic explosion of relentless kinetic energy.Although existent in various forms since October 2006, it was not until early 2008 that the Ruckus Collective really took off, quickly earning a reputation as one of the city’s most exciting new bands. A constantly evolving palette of influences including funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, ska, reggae and ambient electronica has drawn comparisons with the likes of Ozomatli and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but in reality it is impossible to categorise this remorselessly genre-smashing punk fusion party sound. The recording of Stop, Drop, Dance! in June ’08 represented a high point for the six members, keen to capture the group’s live potential with a debut album funded by months of heavy gigging. The studio experience had ups and downs, but its result is a disc that successfully portrays the edgy creativity and incendiary dancefloor power which never fails to raise a ruckus.* * * * *Sadly, the band is currently taking an enforced hiatus until summer 2009 as two members are living abroad. Oh, the inconveniences of university! But fear not, the Ruckus will be back bigger than ever after the break. Please feel free to get in touch on here or via ruckuscollective[at]gmail.com - we would be overjoyed to add you to the mailing list or engage in general correspondence. Some pics from the archives - new ones on the way soon!

Influences: we all listen to different stuff from jazz, funk and hip-hop to reggae, ska, rock, punk and more - most of which somehow seems to work itself into the sound of the band as a whole... ^ This is how Roland played the bass during his period of incapacitation.
Sounds Like: "an upbeat hip-hop/funk ensemble with dynamic arrangements swinging from ambient jazz to full-on punk energy" - Contraband Sessions"a modern funk band that didn't make me want to rip my own ears off" - BBC Bristol Uncovered"a frenetic, unhinged yet soulful brand of funk... live, they are a formidable force, combining evident musicianship with an energy that channels a definite punk vibe" - London Tourdates"a sax-fronted funk band growing in strength with every performance; tight as hell and a strong MC to boot" - The Attic"a ferocious jazz-funk-rock fusion with a rhythm section that could drive any band" - Live Music Scene [ click here for full review ]"Ruckus Collective are bold as brass and funkier than old socks - one of Bristol's hottest bands right now" - Mad Method"these young funkophiles have the skill and energetic invention to propel them to greater things... it's the rhythmic spice of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the fizz of Ozomatli. Sax masters and effervescent MCs, they’d turn Monday morning into a party - prepare to be moved" - Fact FansVenues we've played:
