BeBop has been into the drums for many years now...as with everyone he started out in mate's bedrooms dropping some sick lyrics as a young boy. He then decided all the money his parents spent on his musical talents (violin/piano) would be better invested into a couple of turntables, so he bought some second-hand SoundLabs and then the fun began. He has since then, upgraded these for something more suitable. He now uses two Vestax PDX2000s and a Pioneer DJM500 along with a pristine pair of studio monitors/amp. He is primarily a lover of vinyl and is still undecided on CDs – “they don’t have that same ‘hands on’ feel, but I may change my mind given the current range of CD decks on offer…â€
BeBop is a fan of all types of music, having come from a classically trained background. Since then he has found a taste for various different genres of music including, everything from Jazz to modern upbeat electronica.
He discovered his love for drum and bass from a young age, and was instantly hooked by the adrenaline-inducing tempo and deep bass lines. His favoured style of drum and bass is heavily dependent on his mood at the time, ranging from mellow melodic liquid, to snarling dirty dark-side.
BeBop likes nothing better than a good jungle rave and is a particular fan of the older-style ‘happy raves’ such as Moondance and Raindance. He has been to his fair share of free parties, at least half of which he has played at. “My first memory of raving was running up and down a bar in a pub turned squat in Brixton at about 14 years old, spitting rhymes like my life depended on it!†He is less happy with the way a lot of events these days are attracting more and more moody characters who seem less interested in the music and more interested in causing aggro.
He got his first break about 5 or 6 years ago & has played on various internet & fm stations that have played host to the Seismic Force and Mutant DJs along with numerous play outs at venues both locally and nationally as well as a large handful of university gigs.
The Mutant DJ’s were formed after the break up of a larger group “Seismic Force†of which BeBop was a founding member, when most members went off to university, and moved on to doing they’re own things. They were an 8-man group of DJ's, Mc's and Producers, based in the South-East London area, who met as friends from school and college. They set up their own monthly nights as well as various other individual nights and private parties. Also individual and collective sets on both pirate and internet radio stations including 2 current weekly shows on www.ukrumble.com and www.darkwaxradio.com.
BeBop has played on the following stations:
102.7 2G fm
89.6 Select fm
95.6 Flex fm
