Profile GeneratorShredder (AKA Phodee)grew up with a classical background in music, as his father lectured music at university, and persuaded him to play the piano and violin from the age of 7. “I’m glad I had such an early start in music, it helped me to find my own path†he comments. After being an avid listener to all types of music, he discovered dance music around the age of 10 or 11 (1993/94). “At the time it was all old skool jungle, on the radioâ€, Shredder reminisces listening to pirate stations Kool FM and Rude FM. It wasn’t until he was 14 until he got into the scene properly when he went to the Planet V Album Launch at the Mass in Brixton, “it was my first taste of a full blown D’n’B rave and I was hooked!â€
He has now been DJing for about 9 years, at various different events around the country, and been on both pirate and internet radio. “I started off buying a few D'n'B records every week†he says standing in front of an extensive collection of records surrounding his 2 Technics 1210 mk2’s, 1 Vestax pdx2000 (3rd deck) and his Vestax PCV275 mixer. His collection consists of mostly Drum and Bass with a selection of Hip Hop, R'n'B, House, Garage, Trance, Old Skool, Classical, 80’s pop and Breakbeat. The only thing missing now is a CD mixer as “it appears digital technology is beginning to take overâ€, but Shredder insists, “I’ll never stop buying vinyl, even if they stop cutting themâ€.
After being a bedroom DJ for a few years, Shredder and some of his friends from school and then college joined together to form “Seismic Forceâ€. The 8-man group of DJ's, Mc's and Producers began putting on our own monthly nights in the South-East London area, as well as various other individual nights and private parties.
After the break up of Seismic Force, due to members going off to university and getting on with individual pursuits, Shredder and two other members created the “Mutant DJ’sâ€, formed of B-Bop, Rocksteady and Shredder.
Shredders plans for the future are to get into the production side of Drum and Bass but admits “it’s difficult to buy the equipment when you can’t stop buying recordsâ€!!
