.................................................. I find myself questioning the process of adaptation. Is this our greatest technique of survival as humans or our single greatest obstacle which prevents us from experiencing ultimate feeling? Dulling our senses while strengthening our defenses to the world. My work addresses this issue by interrogating each form in a biological, physical, or physiological manner. Stressing the clay by fast-passed hand building, creating fragile forms, or under/over firing allows me to test the form’s ability to transform. Thus providing results proving that while specific attributes are gained others are also lost. Glazes applied are often untested and are provoked to perform “unusuallyâ€. The lack of oxygen inherent in a reductive firing process creates a cacophony of earthy color and a textural palette ideal for my work. Clay, metal and glaze are all fused within my pieces, strengthening the obsessive question of adaptation. Despite the conclusion, my work tends to exist in a universe of mystery and unpredictability.
