Ryan Judas Wolf is an independent artist who primarily focuses on creative and experimental solo work, but also contributes to session work and collaborates with other bands and artists as a guitarist, bassist, violinist and vocalist.
Unlike most career guitarists who picked up a guitar at a young age, Wolf picked up a guitar after serving as a Airborne Infantry soldier for the United States Army. After sustaining injuries from a combat training jump with the 82nd Airborne Division, he found solace and refuge in an old Johnson acoustic guitar while resting up in his birth home of Woodstock, NY. Little did he realize the impact the instrument would have on the rest of his life, later discovering the Fender Telecaster, and a world of music that he saw in a new light.
Once recovered from his injuries, he committed his life to the guitar, and reinvented himself into The Gypsy Wolf that he is today, living the life of a nomad, and maintaining an ecclectic mix of role models for his passionate sounds.
Wolf takes his influences from the darkness of bands like "Tool" and "A Perfect Circle", to the ambience & passion of David Gilmour's "Pink Floyd", the dynamic and tone of Eric Johnson and Jeff Beck, the blues & emotion of Rory Gallagher and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the shred of artists like Paul Gilbert in "Racer X" and Michael Amott in "Arch Enemy", and the intensity & creativity of John 5's talent with "Rob Zombie" and his own solo work.
"There is a lot that drives me to play." Says Wolf. "I'm more interested in the sounds that I can create on the guitar, and how it makes myself and others feel, rather than showing off anything flashy or technical. I strive to be a strong and capable guitarist, but all I desire is to play the right notes, the ones just right for me and wherever I am in my life."
His music is found to be melodic, foreign, ambient, intense and progressive. Above all, it is passionate, coming from the same place where his inner demons are kept, and played for no one's sake but his own. He's a tone chaser, and is always striving to find the sound that expresses himself best.
Currently a student at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California to advance his talent and abilities on the guitar, he is working hard to find his roots with his instrument. You can regularly find him trying to keep up with the demands of his guitar instructors whom have included Al Bonhomme, Jeff Young (Megadeth), Allen Hinds, Carl Verheyen (Session Guitarist), Keith Wyatt (Guitar World Magazine), David Oakes, Stuart Ziff (WAR), Dan Gilbert, Greg Harisson, Paul Gilbert (Racer X) and Alex Skolnick (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra).
With their tutilage, Wolf currently spends his career rehearsing in one of MI's many practice rooms, or at home in his studio as he tries to find his own sound, learning to get his guitar breathing and talking...

"The Metal Method Instructional DVDs I purchased in the spring of 2006 was one of the most beneficial investments I've ever made as a guitarist. They cover every aspect of becoming a proficient rock & metal guitarist, and provides the training exercises to get there. Doug Marks also supplies Michael Angelo Batio's "Speed Kills" and "Speed Lives" videos, which has helped push my limits on the guitar. I'm proud to be an affiliate with Doug Marks, and highly recommend these instructional videos to beginners and experienced guitarists alike. Check them out by clicking the banner above!" ~ RjW
