Go dreamers!

About Me

I come from Ohio, but found myself going to college in Manhattan in the fall of ‘99, and like so many others the city sucked me in. But I’m glad for it…I’ve met so many awesome people and had experiences you can only get by living in NYC.Career wise, I’ve been working full-time as a writer/assistant since the winter after my graduation, while writing, revising (repeat several times) and trying to publish my first novel- a young adult, coming-of-age tale called Enchantia . Here’s a bit from the first chapter: This immense backyard was my Eden. The Woods (what I've called my backyard as long as I can remember) were like a third, all-knowing parent. I could spend hours sitting on a log or wandering through the five winding trails my parents had made. That day in The Woods I ran till I reached my favorite spot – a tree stump by a stream – which was surrounded by a rainbow of wildflowers. And so I sat in The Woods, crying. When the tears finally stopped, and I caught my breath, I shouted and screamed terrible insults and curses to my mean classmates. Especially Ryan. "I hate you Ryan! I hope you keep getting stupider and fail everything and get uglier and so fat that you'll pop like a balloon!" I shouted, grinning wickedly as I imagined Ryan popping. A few minutes later I calmed down, breathing in the crisp air The Woods always provided, letting the nurturing wind dry my tears. And then I talked to the trees. Some were still saplings, others a century old, and all forever patient as they slowly grew, year by year. I've always thought that if trees could talk they would amaze us with their wisdom. When the wind blew and the trees swayed, their leaves rustling, that was their song, and how I tried to understand it. Often, when I was sad, they seemed to chant these words: Be at peace. Things will be okay. Just be at peace.Yeah, it's really cheery like that. But if you’re interested in more, check out my blog, Forever Enchanted . My posts include snippets from my novel, thoughts, pictures, music, poetry, experiences, or whatever else I feel like rambling on about.

My Interests

I'm already bored of my last answer so I'm gonna pick five- yoga, horseback riding, nature, theater and enjoying NY nightlife with my friends.

I'd like to meet:

Writers and those in the publishing field. It would also be fun to connect with other creative spirits/fellow dreamers, in whatever area. But really, any nice person with a sense of humor and something interesting to say is cool with me.

Music:

Almost anything, from rock to classical.

Movies:

In the words of everyone’s favorite Kazakhstani, I like!

Television:

My two can’t miss shows are Lost and 24. And though I don’t watch them regularly, The Office (American version is great but the BBC one rocks!), Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Ali G are all so awesomely funny. And Simpsons and Seinfeld- classic!

Books:

My favorites include (but are in no way limited to) The Lovely Bones , Jane Eyre , Pride and Prejudice , Lord of the Rings , Harry Potter , The Five People You Meet in Heaven , and almost anything by Wendell Berry, Amy Tan and Maeve Binchy.

Heroes:

Teachers. I owe them everything!
