Gabriele Poggi

I was born in Modena, Italy, on 15 April 1972. I started to play guitar & piano when I was six, just singing my favourite cartoons theme songs. I grew up listening to Marvin Gaye, Beatles, Prince, Steely Dan, Al Jarreau, Billy Joel, Toto…and afterwards I fell in love with Caetano Veloso, Joni Mitchell, Fabrizio De André, Tim Buckley, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Frank Zappa, Radiohead, Paolo Conte, Tom Waits, Ivano Fossati, Robert Wyatt and many others. At fifteen I put up the first band with some dear friends (“Atlantica”), playing electric bass. After some little experiences with other bands in Vignola (Hands, Carpe Diem, Persuasione) on keyboards and background vocals, in 1999 I started playing at restaurants, pubs, wine bar in a musical duo (“G & G”), with another musician (Luigi Passuti – guitar & vocals). In 2004 I began performing cover versions of my favourite songs trying to arrange music in stylized and personal way. These songs are included on “Un passo avanti” (2005), self-produced demo CD recorded “live” (without a multi-tracks system) at my home studio. At the present time I keep on singing and playing (music clubs, restaurants, pubs, weddings, parties) and at the same time I’m writing new songs.
