About Me

I learn more about myself everyday. All that I can tell you about me, you can find in my interests, blogs, etc., so READ, lol.

Check this out: "Crazy" - Lamar Harris & Good4TheSoul featuring ME! lol! from the CD/DVD "Live at the Bistro."

My Interests

  • Reading
  • Writing (songs, poetry, essays, whatever...)
  • Singing
  • Holding a good conversation (got something 2 say?)
  • Rollerskating (I get my occasional gospel roll on at Coachlite on Fridays. lol!)
  • Crafty stuff like knitting (don't look at me like that)
  • I'd like to meet:

    Nikki Giovanni
Toni Morrison (although I'm certain I'd either stutter the whole time or just say nothing and pee my pants)
    Stevie Wonder
Patti LaBelle (talk about making my day!)

    Music:

    Gospel, like:

  • Anything by any of the Clark Sisters
  • J. Moss
  • Donald Lawrence
  • Kim Burrell (We miss you, Kim.)

  • Nu-Soul, like:
  • Erykah Badu
  • Maxwell (Where are you, man?)
  • Jill Scott
  • Jazzyfatnastees(Don't sleep on them.)
  • Amel Larrieux(quiet genius)
  • Eric Roberson (I got all five albums in less than a years time!)
  • Anthony David

  • Vocal Jazz, like:
  • Kurt Elling (man....)
  • Ella (if you need a last name, geez)
  • Take 6
  • New York Voices
  • Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross (true pioneers of Vocalese)
  • Shirley Horn (R.I.P.)

  • Classic Soul, like:
  • Donnie Hathaway (my, my, my)
  • Stevie Wonder (a wonder indeed)

  • Clubby-type stuff I'm just not hip enough to catagorize, like:
  • Vikter Duplaix
  • Masters at Work
  • Verve Remixed

  • Folk, like:
  • James Taylor
  • Paul Simon
  • Movies:

Imitation of Life (Although I haven't watched it in some time, I used to cry at the end. I ain't a punk either. sniff)
    Clueless (Whatever...)
The Color Purple ('You tole Harpo to beat me?!')
Dreamgirls a flawlessly crafted movie musical ('Curtis says it's what's best for the group.')
Almost every Spike Lee Joint (School Daze I think is my favorite.)

    Television:

America's Next Top Model (A true guilty pleasure)
Practically anything musical on PBS: Great Performances, Evening at the Pops, Live at the Met, etc.
Grey's Anatomy(Better than ER. And WAY funnier.)
So You Think You Can Dance?

    Books:

  • Love by Toni Morrison (I know she can be confusing at times, but if you stick with her, the pay-off is phenomenal.)
  • The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (It's a big book, but once you're in the story, it doesn't matter anymore.)

  • THE MOST RECENT FICTION BOOK I'VE READ:
  • The Emperor of Ocean Park by Stephen L. Carter Okay, so I finally got around to reading it and I was so hooked. Talcott Garland is a black law school professor whose father suddenly dies and leaves "arrangements" for him to find and handle. The story is intricate and witty, leaving one guessing up to last chapters. More than just a thriller, Carter speaks candidly on race, class, politics and how they play a part in creating our individual realities. I was re-reading passages just to see if I could figure what some of the words he was using meant (talk about a vocabulary!) and just laughing out loud at the honesty of it all. It's a lengthy, but worthwhile read.
  • Heroes:

  • Jesus
  • My Parents: as much as I fight it, I find myself becoming more like the both of them.
