JOYFUL GOSPEL GROUP Il nucleo iniziale del Joyful Gospel Group, che alla sua nascita non aveva neppure un nome, si forma nel lontano 1994 dalla volontà di una giovane ragazza quattordicenne, Giorgia, di mettere insieme un piccolo gruppo di ragazzi di età compresa tra i nove e i quattordici anni con la finalità di intraprendere un’esperienza musicale che durasse per il solo periodo estivo. Grazie all’entusiasmo dei ragazzi l’esperienza non si conclude e la giovane direttrice continua così ad impegnarsi fino a dare un vero e proprio indirizzo artistico e musicale al suo coro, ovvero quello del Gospel. Al gruppo vengono anche dati un nome ed una divisa - la loro tradizionale tunica viola con la fascia dorata - e così “l’esperienza Joyful Gospel Group” può finalmente iniziare in tutto e per tutto! Il coro riesce in poco tempo a procurarsi diversi ingaggi e s’impegna ad affrontare numerosi concerti. Le vere soddisfazioni cominciano così ad arrivare e, grazie ad una sempre maggiore affluenza di pubblico ai concerti, i quali si tengono soprattutto in chiese e teatri, il coro si fa conoscere sempre più. Nel 1998 il Joyful Gospel Group collabora con A.V.E.L.L. (’Associazione Veneta per la Lotta contro i Linfomi e le Leucemie) tenendo una serie di concerti per raccogliere fondi da devolvere all’associazione stessa. Nel 2000, in occasione del Carnevale di Venezia, il coro si esibisce in Piazza San Marco e, nell’agosto dello stesso anno, viene chiamato a cantare in Piazza Duomo a Treviso in occasione del Giubileo. Nel marzo 2002 il Joyful Gospel Group ha l’onore di collaborare con AGAPE di Campalto (Venezia), associazione O.N.L.U.S. che, dal 1980, si occupa di assistenza ed inserimento sociale delle persone disabili. Successivamente, a partire dal 2005, il coro dà il via ad una collaborazione con la U.I.C. (Unione Italiana Ciechi), tenendo diversi concerti per raccogliere fondi per la ricerca. Nel 2007 il Joyful Gospel Group canta in occasione della rassegna “Incroci Musicali 2007”, manifestazione patrocinata dalla Municipalità di Mestre e Carpenedo (Venezia) ed organizzata dall’Associazione Culturale Orchestra Sinfonica Laurentina, a capo della quale vi è il direttore artistico Maurizio Di Bella, nome conosciuto a livello nazionale ed europeo per le sue doti pianistiche e per distinguersi quale compositore e direttore corale e d'orchestra. Sempre nel 2007 il coro arriva a Bologna dove, in occasione della rassegna “B.L.A.C.K: Bologna Gospel and Afro - American Music Kermesse”, si esibisce il 12 maggio nella Chiesa Evangelico Metodista affiancando altri due cori, uno dei quali è il gruppo africano facente capo alla chiesa stessa: per l'occasione il Joyful Gospel Group presenta una scaletta ricca di storia e passione, interpretata con il solo accompagnamento delle percussioni; una novità per il coro ed un importante momento di condivisione e confronto con altre culture. Nei mesi di maggio e giugno, sempre del 2007, il coro viene chiamato a cantare per la manifestazione "Mestre Più 2007" nel centro della città di Mestre (Venezia) regalando al pubblico due ore di energia positiva portando per le strade un po' di buona musica black. L'esperienza si ripete poi nel dicembre dello stesso anno in occasione della manifestazione “A Natale è Mestre Più”. Negli ultimi anni molte cose sono cambiate: il repertorio si è arricchito, il metodo di lavoro si è affinato e nuovi arrivi hanno rinvigorito le energie del gruppo. Dal marzo del 2007 il coro è completamente autogestito ed auto diretto: questa una caratteristica che rende il Joyful Gospel Group un coro davvero speciale. Altre cose, invece, sono rimaste immutate: l’impegno, la voglia di cantare, la passione per la musica Gospel ed anche un forte legame affettivo; questi gli ingredienti che hanno sempre tenuto assieme e che continuano ancora oggi ad unire i componenti del coro e che rendono il Joyful Gospel Group un gruppo unico nel suo genere.“Un nostro concerto non è solo un'occasione per ascoltare della buona musica o per passare due ore in maniera diversa dal solito, ma significa soprattutto coinvolgimento reciproco tra coro e pubblico a 360°; significa sentirsi totalmente immersi nei ritmi solenni, gioiosi e ricchi di storia di un genere musicale che è alla base di tutta la musica moderna: il Gospel!”__________________________________________________ ______________________ The initial formation of the Joyful Gospel Group dates back to 1994 when a very strongly motivated 14 year old girl decided to bring together a small group of young “kids” (aged 9 to 14) who all had in common the love for music and wanted to share a musical experience that would have lasted all summer. Thanks to the group’s great initiative and spirit, this summer experience carried out by Giorgia Giuman - at that time the choir director - never ended. She furthermore gave the group an artistic path to follow: that of Gospel music. Step by step the choir started gaining confidence and its own identity, which brought by the birth of its name “Joyful Gospel Group” and its stylish uniform: the traditional purple tunics with golden bands. These important elements marked the official beginning of the “JGG experience”. It took the choir a brief amount of time to be contacted for various events. As soon as the choir started holding concerts ( in various churches and theatres), the members began enjoying their first satisfactions of their hard work. The choir started gaining popularity thanks to the increasing public at the concerts. In 1998 the Joyful Gospel Group collaborates with the AVELL (Venetian Association against Lymphoma and Leukemia) holding several fund raising concerts in order to devolve their income to the association. In 2000, in the occasion of the Carnival of Venice, the choir performs in Saint Mark’s Square. In that same year, they were called to perform in the Piazza Duomo in Treviso for the Jubilee. In 2002 the choir has the honor to collaborate with the ONLUS association AGAPE, which has been active since the 1980s. This association offers help to people with special needs. Since 2005 the choir has been cooperating with the UIC (Italian Union for the Blind), participating in various fundraising events for scientific research. In 2007 the choir is honored to receive the patronage of the Municipality of Mestre and Carpenedo collaborating in the musical review Incroci musicali 2007, with the Laurentina Cultural Symphonic Orchestral Association, directed by the organizer and artistic director Maurizio Di Bella, recognized in all of Europe for his musical achievements as a pianist, orchestral and choral director, and for his musical compositions. Continuing with 2007, the choir reaches Bologna where, in occasion of the B.L.A.C.K: Bologna Gospel and Afro-American Music Kermesse, has the chance to sing on the 12th of May at the Evangelic-Methodist Church, together with two other choirs, one of which is the church’s own African choir. For this occasion the members present a track list enriched with passion and traditional songs performed entirely a cappella accompanied by percussions: a new experience for the Joyful Gospel Group and an important moment in relating themselves with other cultures. During both the months of May and June 2007, the choir is contacted to sing during the manifestation "Mestre Più 2007" that takes place in the center of Mestre city, entertaining the public with two hours of positive energy driven music and filling the streets of Mestre with spicy black rhythms and sounds. The experience repeats itself again in December of the same year, in the occasion of the manifestation “A Natale è Mestrepiù”. During these last years many changes have taken place; the members of the JGG have affined their working methods and have enriched their repertoire and new arrivals have invigorated the group. Since march 2007 the choir has been completely self managed and self directed; this peculiarity makes the JGG a very special choir. Several factors remain the binding elements of the group: the love and will to sing, the passion for gospel music and a strong bond of affection. These are the ingredients that have always tied and kept the group united and unique in its kind until today. “A concert of ours is not only an occasion where you can listen to some good music or a way to spend a few hours in a different way, above all things it means interaction with the public in every way. This also means feeling totally surrounded by the solemn and joyful rhythms of Gospel music, enriched with an immense historical background, the essence of music which is at the heart of modern music!”
