Deacon Vagabond 2008 CD Release

About Me

Over Guinness on tap and conversation about Jon's spiritual and slightly crazy history that involves skateboarding, LSD, religion, calm forms of brainwash, self medication and music, Eddie Gallimi coined the phrase Deacon Vagabond. Perhaps it is a slight turn from his 2005 Rosa and the Mustard Man that briefed topics such as love, God, Craigslist, urban dwelling, and pork. Prior to his exodus to New York City, Jon marched in Florida, Jamaica, and was born and raised in Long Beach, CA. These new songs on Deacon Vagabond are brilliantly honest and defining with its originality. They are exactly what we want. BIO Born January 26, 1977 in famed Long Beach, CA. home to starters Sublime and Snoop Dog, Jon is a product of jazz on Cal State Long Beach's KLON along with his parents LP collection which included all Beatle's, Crosby Still's and Nash's Déjà Vu and the legendary Survival from Bob Marley and the Wailers. Along with Grateful Dead there was and the world famous 106.7 KROQ in Pasadena. Before Nirvana and grunge, KROQ was select in their choosing. Cuts like The Smiths, early INXS and Joe Jaskon would make way for lots of copycats. By sixteen, Jon had embraced all of this music and found him self playing in an all Jamaican roots reggae band in the Long Beach and LA music scene. The band was Tribal Style and for the next ten years, Jon would travel extensively to Jamaica performing, appearing on TV and radio, and building a house in the mountain parish of St. Elizabeth. The band would also support top named artists such as Burning Spear, Ziggy Marley, Third World, and Toots and the Maytals. In 2003, after absorbing roots culture while living in Jamaica, Jon changed his pace and attended NYU for his Masters in music composition. There he wrote orchestral and chamber works, musical theatre, and film scoring. During this time he also teamed up with Producer Donald Skinner and Greenshack Music in Long Beach, CA. and east coast Producer Mitch Winston in NYC to put out 2 CD's and cultivate audiences on both coasts. Deacon Vagabond marks a personal maturing point for Jon as he takes a stand as an anti-rock star.
