Family, friends, church, movies, rock 'n' roll, baseball, great food, great spirits, great cigars, work, worship, hanging out, afternoon naps, classic guitars, my dog. Sunday afternoons on the front porch with a glass of port and a good pipe or cigar is my idea of livin'.
I'd like to meet:

The Passing of a Pioneer
The man who blazed the trail for Contemporary Christian music is now in the arms of the Savior he loved so much and served so faithfully. On February 24, 2008, Larry Norman went to be with Jesus. If any one individual can be credited for having the greatest role in pushing the bounds of sacred music to encompass the rock genre, it was Larry. In one of his best known and highest energy tunes he posed the question "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?". Well thanks in no small measure to Larry - he does not. Thank you dear brother. I will look you up when I get there.
The Blues Loses a Young Legend
Another great musician left the world this year. Blues guitarist Jeff Healey died on Sunday March 2nd following a long struggle with cancer. Remembered by fellow musicians — and his audiences — for his wry sense of humour as well as his musical playfulness, Healey was a unique musician who bridged different genres with ease and assurance. He was perhaps best known for his unique style of playing with his guitar lying flat in his lap, a technique he developed as a child. Though blind from infancy, Jeff is an amazing example of moving beyond life's challenges to accomplish things that others only dream about. He left us too soon, but his legacy lives on in his music and in the hearts of his fans, his family and his children. Thanks Jeff for sharing your gift with us.

"Still Amazed - Live Worship at Bent Tree"
by Scott Dyer
I first found Scott at Willow Creek Community Church while attending a conference there several years ago. He and his wife Vonda were leaders in the worship team. They're now leading worship at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship in Carrollton, Texas where this live worship CD was recorded. Listening to the single "Still Amazed" while driving down the road, I was overwhelmed by the reality of God's relentless love for me, despite what a terribly flawed person I am. The truth in these timeless lyrics, rearranged by Scott, moved me like I haven't felt in a long time. Thanks, brother.
"Never Going Back to OK"
by The Afters
These guys are just a lot of fun. I would love to go back and be their age again and be writing songs like "MySpace Girl" - a true story involving one of their band members (or so the rumor says). It's the "happy side" of Internet stalking! :-)

And speaking of music, here's my son Robbin's band "To Be Announced"
"To Be Announced" is: Blaine-Lead Guitar, Robbin-Lead Vocals, Jon-Rhythm Guitar, Michael-Bass Guitar, Matt-Drums. These guys only played together a week and a couple of days before this event. I think they're pretty darned good under the circumstances, even if I am a "band dad".
