~About Me
I was born & raised in Bellevue, Washington & I have a very handsome 20 year old Son, Russell, who I am very proud of. He's living in California again & I miss him like crazy. I'm hoping he does that "Road Trip" to Washington that he's been talking about. (Hint, hint Russell).

I also have two of the cutest Yorkie's, Monty & Sadie.

I spend most of my time with my Boyfriend Dean, the bears & my constant companions, Monty & Sadie.
My Mom taught me how to sew as a kid, but I never cared much for it. My passion was drawing (which got me into alot of trouble at school), I had more interest in my art than I did my school work.
......
In the early 90's, after I decided I was completely burned out on 10 years of cutting hair, I decided I needed to find something else to do. I tried my hand at everything from custom wood and hand painted clocks to childrens clothing. I did'nt get the Bear Bug until the Winter of 1995 when I was living in the California Desert. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me. It allows me to express myself creatively like I've never, ever been able to do. I just LOVE it . I don't think I could see myself doing anything else.
In 2001, I was honored with a TOBY Industry Choice Award for my Mommy & Baby Panda.
In 2005 my Panda "Mi Ren" was also honored with The TOBY Industry Choice Award in The Large, Undressed catagory & in 2006 my bears "Toots" (Small Undressed Catagory) & "Nukatpiaq" (Small Dressed Catagory) both won TOBY Industry Choice Awards.
I have been featured several times in Teddy Bear & Friends, Teddy Bear Review & Teddy Today magazines, as well as The European magazines.

The History of Artist Bears
Today we can hardly imagine a world without that eager listener, confidante, and loyal friend, the teddy bear. But the teddy bear has not always been with us. In fact, the teddy bear did not make its entrance until late in 1902. Then, in one of life's unexplainable synchronicities, the teddy bear appeared in the same year in two different parts of the world: Germany and the United States.
In 1974, Beverly Port, an American dollmaker who also loved making teddy bears, dared to take a teddy bear she made to a doll show. At the show, she presented Theodore B. Bear holding the hand of one of her dolls. The next year, Beverly presented a slide show she had created about teddy bears for the United Federation of Doll Clubs. That show quickly became a sensation. Other people, first in the United States and then all over world, caught Beverly's affection for the teddy bear. They, too, began applying their talents to designing and making teddy bears. One by one, and by hand, teddy bear artistry was born with Beverly, who coined the term "teddy bear artist" often cited as the mother of teddy bear artistry.
Today thousands of teddy bears artists, often working from their homes all over the world, create soft sculpture teddy bear art for eager collectors. These higher priced teddy's are highly sought after & are highly collectible. The number of artists & collectors continues to climb.
So what's next for the teddy bear? Certainly our love affair with the teddy bear shows no signs of abating.

Theadore Roosevelt & The Teddy Bear
Here is the real story of how the teddy bear sprang into our hearts.
Nearly 100 years ago, President Theodore Roosevelt, went on a bear hunt. He enjoyed nature and being out in the woods where animals lived. Because he was the President of the United States, the people organizing the hunt wanted to make sure the hunt was successful.
But after 3 days of walking and climbing and riding, no bears were found. Now what? The President's bear hunt would be a failure!
The next day the hunt guide and his hunting dogs finally found an old bear. The dogs and guide followed the bear for quite a distance until the bear was very, very tired. The dogs attacked and injured the old bear. The guides tied the bear to a tree and called for the President. Here was a bear for him to shoot!
President Roosevelt looked at the poor old bear and said "no!" No one would shoot this old bear for sport. That would not be right. However, the bear was injured and suffering. President Roosevelt ordered that the bear be put down to end its pain.
A political cartoonist by the name of Clifford Berryman heard this story. A political cartoonist draws about current events in the news. Mr. Berryman drew a cartoon showing how President Roosevelt refused to shoot the bear while hunting in Mississippi.
