About Me

Singer/ Songwriter/ Graphic -and Fine Artist/ Model___Frontman of My Sleeping Thoughts___ http://www.myspace.com/mysleepingthoughts___ I was born Willem Frederick Erasmus on the 11th of May 1977, when Venus and Taurus scattered their first cluster of pop music from the copulation of the 70s and 80s.My kindergarten school report would soon procl.."Frederich wants to sing sing sing!"I drew comic -& story books in primary school and the teacher put them with the other books in the reading corner. Visits to the psychiatrist (because of abnormal levels of day dreaming), finally concluded that there is nothing to worry about and that I was just a bit distracted by ideas, different from the other children and on the contrary very talented. I prefered having The Cure-esque puppet shows and theatre in the back garden. As the court jester in primary school, I soon became the chairman of the pupil committees Drama department.I wrote my first song at the age of 16, after creating a strange whale/dolphin-like sound for it on a friends Roland D10 synthesizer. My paintings in high school had a lot of resemblances to surrealists such as my birthday counterpart, Salvador Dali. After almost studying Drama, I entered music college only to find that all the theory interferes with my creative freedom. Saving a few lessons that could become useful at the back of my mind, I quit after a year. I started to persue the Coyote Ugly - dream by forming/ joining various bands, while working part-time in some retail institute or another.I wrote/ played keyboards / co-produced/-and sung backing for a local band that headed for the UK where the project terminated.I played my first gig as a solo acoustic set in a Hotel in Oxfordshire, as The Nightbird ( my alter ego for which I also created promotional comic book art. The second performance took place at a wedding at the same hotel, singing a song especially written for the bride and the groom. Just a bus ride from the Haunted George Hotel I hooked up with John Potter. We recorded but a mere two and a half tracks together at his home studio in Abingdon, but I am very pleased with the work we’ve done together. I started sending out demos again in the need of a more compatible venture. I replied to an ad in the NME magazine. A band (at the time called Simpatico) were looking for a new frontman and sent me a retail copy of their single Waves. Two guitarists later we would settle without an official guitarist as an electronic trio called My Sleeping Thoughts. Received well in live performance, reviews and radio airplay that would soon ceaze to manifest itself into a chart postion, when my Visa in the UK tragically ends. The band is left with an album’s worth of material, earned through various personal hardships, but persevered with firm passion and devotion. The band decides to undertake a strict but difficult process of internet promotion and recordings.Perhaps our postive perpectives provide some dandy holidays abroad!Text: F.Erasmus

Sounds Like: Review of my Uk Band My Sleeping Thoughts' 3 track promo disc by Insomnia Magazine Sep/Oct 2006 issue: "VERY CATCHY 3 TRACK EP VERY REMINISCENT OF THE EARLY EIGHTIES NEW ROMANTIC MOVEMENT. THE TITLE TRACK MANAGES TO CAPTURE THAT CERTAIN SOUND THAT SO MANY HAVE TRIED TO CAPTURE BUT FAILED. ALL THREE TRACKS ARE EXPERTLY ARRANGED, ENGINEERED AND EXECUTED. THIS EP REALLY JUST SHOWCASE HOW PROFESSIONAL AND TALENTED MY SLEEPING THOUGHTS ARE. The band are under influence of 8Ball Mangement who are capturing some really talented bands at the moment and are developing a very impressive stable indeed with bands such as Deviant UK, Adfinem and Novus. My Sleeping Thoughts have put a lot into the three tracks on this EP, let's hope that they get the reward they so richly deserve for their commitment and effort. LIVE PERFORMANCE REVIEW BY NEON PROMOTIONS, LONDON FOR MY SLEEPING THOUGHTS (AT THE TIME KNOWN AS 'SIMPATICO') AT THE HOPE AND ANCHOR, LONDON ISLINGTON 22ND FEB 2005: "These guys play eighties influenced SYNTH LADEN ROCK which can be very reminiscent of ULTRAVOX or even DEPECHE MODE at times. Vocals often border on the spoken, giving a tite, machine like quality to the band, and there are some very good tunes to be found, with CATCHY CHORUSSES and MEMORABLE SYNTH LINES.A QUALITY BLAST INDEED!"RADIO SINGLE REVIEW BY NEON PROMOTIONS, LONDON: "Don't save Me" kicks in with some fat synth sounds and a restrained vocal that are together reminiscent of GARY NUMAN and even with a healthy dose of guitar finding its way into the mix, this 80's inspired sound is always keyboard led. "Wreckage" (promo B-side) is a little more poppy, sailing close to the waters once ruled by the yachts of DURAN DURAN. Only two tracks then, but a nice reminder of MORE STYLISH TIMES."

My constant race against time, residential status and the big fight has recently become quite an accurate metaphoric reference to a scene from the end of Bram Stoker's Dracula. I told a friend th...

Following the Sun

I can't help but observing how, on the few days we had sun this Summer, house mates naturally woke up early without an alarm, put on music and started cleaning!

Live Versions

I see live versions as a celebration for fans and not even worth doing if they don't even sound better than the studio predecessors. Even worse if they sound the same. After all, that's the idea I hop...

I saw this poster advertising the new Hell's Kitchen. The poster states " The only way to Heaven is through Hell ". I like that. Applies to so many things!
