jaded on myspace

About Me

You know, I really don't want to do this, but I’ve never been one to stand up to peer pressure. I have this little story to tell. I was doing friendster.com however many years ago and getting all my friends and feeling a little like I was in high school running around getting my fucking yearbook signed by the really cute cheerleader girl who everyone wanted to get their yearbook signed by. But no matter, if everyone else was doing it, I wasn't going to be the one left standing on top of the cliff whilst everyone else was crushed at the bottom of the gorge. No, I was jumping along with them. So I was doing it, right? but then just as I’ve put all this time and energy into the site and had a few friends and had it looking relatively presentable, the queen bee friend, Ursula, decides that she saw friendster.com on CNN or Market watch or something like that so it was time to desert and switch to myspace. Dude. I don't have the energy to keep up with trends. but now I’ve had this myspace page up here for a few years and haven't done anything with it and haven't accepted anyone's friend requests and basically, if someone does look me up that I haven't seen for a hundred thousand years will say something relatively as negative as the rant here. Honestly I’m not a negative person. I’m really quite the opposite. I just wanted to give the whole breakdown of the myspace thing. I’m sure now that I’m going to spend the afternoon writing this someone is going to email me tomorrow and say, "Dude, myspace is over. Go to X." So just for the record, I am not in any way "on" or affiliated with myspace, and if you want to visit or communicate, call me.There. I said it. OK, I'm done. Whew.

My Interests

Travel, writing, and animation.

I'd like to meet:

Either of my grandfathers when they were thirty.

Music:

Yes. I used to say that the only music I don't listen to is country, but I’ve even been listening to country lately, so go figure. The concerts I went to this summer were Tom Waits, Flaming Lips, Jane Doe, Phil Lesh, and Rufus Wainwright at Carnegie Hall.

Movies:

Yes. I was doing this thing last year where I watched all of the academy award winners in order and rated them on the "Dusty's Suspension of Belief Scale." Casablanca came in first with a 16, followed by Gone with the Wind and Crash at 14, and Endless Summer was up there with an 11. It's a long and complicated system; ask me for the entire list.

Television:

No. I don't really watch television, but I’ll rent an old season from the library and watch it in one sitting. Did I mention OCD? I just finished Six Feet Under season two and Arrested Development. I didn't like six feet under, but I loved Buster from Arrested Development.

Books:

Yes. I have them. I would have to say that my favorite fictional books are no longer the ones with the crazy girl driving all the guys insane. Stuff like Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Sun Also Rises. I've come to the conclusion that Miss Holiday Golightly and Lady Brett Ashley are actually the same person. Lately my favorite book is Profound Thoughts of a Plumber. So underground it's not available anywhere. Ask me if you want to borrow my copy.

Heroes:

I would have to say that my Dad, my Brother, and my Mom, would fall into that category. My Dad for being such an incredibly stable role model, my brother for doing things I could never do, and my Mom for being able to put up with all the crap I've put her through.
