I got in to music since an early age of 10 wanted to play electric guitar and took 2 years of classical guitar lessons. Seeing as playing classical guitar wasn’t my thing I ditched it just in time as Hip Hop was coming in my radio. I then started making compliation and mix tapes for myself and other friends in school. After few years gap I just still listened to radio taking in many different styles from Rock, Pop, Soul, Early House and Hip Hop.
I still wanted to make music or play something that finally in ’94 I bought an Epiphone Les Paul 100 and 15 Watt Marshall amp and practised till my fingers ached and ached! It was also at that time I was hearing a new sound from Bristol and London which turned out to be called Trip Hop and early Jungle. I started tuning into a record label called Mo’wax and was taking in some lessons in a music called Techno from the US.
During my time in University I had the chance to be part of different bands and finally decided to start DJing in and around Glasgow. The bands formed didn’t take off as I had expected but it did give me loads of time to DJ and learn slowly how to make beats and use equipment. I then took the plunge and bought an Akai S20 sampler and used a sony home turntable to sample off. My crappy home pc was my sequencer using mostly freeware stuff but it worked somehow.
I saved up for an Akai S2000, Roland MC50 and more FX racks after years of working numerous rubbish jobs. My studio teachers were my records and magazines like FutureMusic and SoundonSound. Years of amateur Djing and self financed shows I took time off and worked my self to the bone in lovely 9-5 jobs for what seems like an eternity but I still kept making music after work. Until my trip to the sunnier parts of India a few years ago that I finally decided to take the even bigger plunge to finally releasing my music.
Fast forward to 2008 and now residing in the heart of Edinburgh. I'm demoing my new Lp "When Less Becomes More" a more mature sounding album encompassing my love for the music I listen from Breaks to Hip Hop, DnB to Soul & Funk, Techno to Indian Classical Music. Especially looking forward to licensing my music to various electronic music labels and digital distribution companies under my new publishing "SoulWorks". Also gettting some mixes done for some djing this year as well. Check this space........
