www.myspace.com/johnhattendorfJAKE NIEMI BIOAs an indie artist on the rise, in 2005 Jake's music finally gained serious attention by major labels, talent scouts, artist management firms, film/tv music publishing companies, and more. Since age 8, he has written, sung, played instruments, and produced. "Future of Life (with John Hattendorf)" won the most votes on Apple iTunes (US) most popular podcast "NEXT BIG HIT" in March 2006 hosted by DJ Copperhead (see Vol. 103 and 104). Jake's song "You Lied To Me" was forwarded by the world's largest independent A&R and also featured in May 2006 on Next Big Hit Vol. 115. He and frequent collaborator John Hattendorf ("Mum and Dad") have maintained multiple top 10 spots on www.sectionz.com, including numerous ..1 spots! "Shine" and "Perfectly Imperfect" were forwarded by TAXI.com to Columbia Records. The Jake Niemi fanbase spans into the thousands and growing on sites like MySpace, CNET's Download.com, Soundclick.com, JakeNiemi.com and more! The momentum continues as Jake garners the support of major industry pro's. Scot Alexander (solo artist and member of Dishwalla) said, "That track ["You Lied To Me"] is THE JAM! NIN meets pop. I love it!" Mark McGuinn (top selling solo artist and songwriter for Lonestar and others) praised Jake's polished sound and said "Why aren't you in LA!?," Brandon Creed of J Records (founded by Clive Davis, long time president of Arista Records) encouraged Jake back in 2003 comparing his sound to vintage 80's bands like Duran Duran and Tears for Fears. Radio PD's like broadcasting veteren John Shomby have said "Jake, this stuff is REALLY GOOD... VERY PROGRESSIVE!" Fans and peers around the world can't wait to see what the future holds for Jake Niemi's music, and they simply can't get enough.Jake Niemi was raised around music and electronics, among other elements. Parents, siblings, and other family were involved in both. This can be heard in his music. Working in radio broadcasting for nearly a decade has yeilded a solid understanding of music that "works" in the mainstream. While he doesn't allow that to hinder his natural inspiration and creativity, it has allowed Jake to inject a "commercial" quality and feel into his music production and songwriting. He also aims to find a balance between some sort of meaningfulness, solid yet variable structure, and sheer ear candy. His musical influences are many, but include 80's Pop (Hall & Oats, Phil Collins, etc.), Breakbeat Electronic (ala bt, Chemical Brothers, etc.), Classical (Frederic Chopin, Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, etc.), Romantic Jazz/Standards (ala Nat King Cole, Harry Connick, Jr.), and Industrial (such as nine inch nails). A plethora of vibrant textures and emotion nestle perfectly into his unique sound, balancing meaningfulness with sheer ear candy. Jake Niemi meshes variable influences like Pop, Industrial, Breakbeat/Electronic, and even Classical. Jake says, "I love so much music, it's too hard to choose one style. Plus I love to record and write differently each time; sometimes on an acoustic guitar, sometimes starting with a drumloop and a synth...""I have produced other artists that I know. Most noteably, soulful rocker and gifted songwriter, my brother Rob Niemi, my genius co-producer and friend John Hattendorf, the mainstream hook Master himself--my buddy Aaron "Matthew," my awesome aunt Cathi Haecker, and my highschool classmate and buddy Stan DeLand (from the project"Serene")."Jake breathes music and stays on the cutting edge of what's out there through radio, his cousin Mike, nephew Josh, his close friend Nikki "Black" Rosinski, personal music research, and pop culture. "I'm obssessed with listening to great music in several styles," he says. "I hope my music reflects that and allows you to enjoy the art that is music as much as I do."
