Japhy Ryder are proving to be one of the best Indie bands on the scene right now, gathering fans at an amazing rate around the globe.
Japhy Ryder's magnetic energy is fuelled by Michael Stanfield's provocative lyrics, infectious rhythms and insightful themes which are both intimate and global in scope. Michael's unique style is perfectly complimented by Mike Spriggs' inspired lead guitar, Mike Kerr providing percussive accents and Rob DeSimone and Bobby Crane driving the rhythm section on drums and bass. 2005 provided many interesting developements with Michael impressing at the RockStarINXS auditions and making it on to the shortlist for the show.Their song "Alright" was chosen as a winner in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest which earned them the honour of performing at the John Lennon Tourbus Stage at the NAMM show, Anaheim in February 2006. Japhy Ryder were also nominated for " Best Live Band " at the Toronto Independant Music Awards, 2006.2007 proved to be a productive year seeing them perform an outstanding set at Kingfest Music Festival(headliners- Sloan,theTrews,Jim Cuddy,Bruce Cockburn),the release of the new selftitled EP, mainstream radio play and a spotlight show on CIUT.fm. Japhy Ryder are looking forward to an abundant 2008 with the release of their full album and busy performance schedule, kicking off the festival season with a showcase in Washington at the D.C. Independent Film and Music Festival in March.
