CITY KIDDS

About Me

The Kidds formed in 1988, the original members were Jamie Kall on Vocals, Kelly Valentine on Guitar, Stevie C' Bright on Bass and Mike Vallace (sometimes Vallance) on Drums. They made their debut appearance on a live radio broadcast. In their first year they managed to get their name in every metal mag worth its salt and played everywhere from local pubs to the famous London Astroria and Cardiff, St Davids Hall. They also managed to shift a thousand copies of their self financed demo tape 'Dressed To Kill'.Independent radio stations all over Britain and Europe were playing their debut three track recording to death ( In Denmark 'Dressed To Kill' and 'Street Tease' were voted numbers 1 and 3 in the Metal Hammer Charts ).City Kidds continuosly pushed for more radio play getting interviewed by all rock fanzines to local European radio and Radio 1, whilst at the same time building up an impressive mail order list. The Kidds decided to capitalise on their following by recording another demo 'Atomic', backed by the release of another tour starting at a sell-out show at Bogiez Rock Club in Cardiff. The Tour became known as the 'No Women, No Money, No Fun Tour'.....at leat one of these was true. It became apparent that interest was growing from the all important West Coast of America and also in the Summer of 91, they bagged their first show at the mecca of Rock N' Roll itself, 'The Marquee' in London.Around this time, there was a band member change which resulted in losing Jamie and Kelly. Kelly Valentine went onto form Soul Rebellion. This resulted in a new singer Josie St John, he did not last long and was quickly replaced by the star who was to be known as Josh 'Spike' Kane on lead vocals and also introduced was Kerry Wild on guitar. Kanes vocals were a marked improvement on the former Jamie Kall and Josie St Johns sound. The band were now looking for a real adventure. By October they found themselves on a minibus on their way to Germany for one weeks tour. It turned out in their own words as "Simply Sensational"....lets be fair they desrved it. .By early 1992, the band decided it was time to give their large following a product they could be proud of, something that could be marketed with the proffesionals. So the City Kidds CD single 'Generation Love' was released and backed with another bout of extensive touring. The CD single far outsrtipped sales of any other City Kidds product, and a copy was recently sold on Ebay for £20....remarkable!Things were taking a different turn and not long after Mikey and Stevie left the band and were replaced by drummer Matt Moran (currently drumming for Tigertailz) and Steve Marie on bass. Ian Danter (former Shotgun Wedding drummer and now in Kiss tribute band Dressed To Kill) was drafted in also at a later time.To see City Kidds live was a truly awesome experience, you were blown away again and again from the clever choreography, balloons, activated fire extinguishers... just the raw charisma of them all on stage working so well together. They really knew how to please their fans and the fans adored them for it.
