Carpe Noctem began in 2003 with the collaboration between brothers Ryan and Brandon De Young in Fresno, California. While searching for a bassist and a lead singer to complete the band, they wrote music together. Brandon met a skilled bassist named Jacob Gadberry, who then joined forces with the brothers. Shortly after, the three musicians moved to San Diego to attend college, where they were introduced to an incredibly talented guitar player and singer, Dave Knecht. Dave, originally from Newport Beach, California, became the lead singer and co-songwriter for the band in 2004.
The four began to combine musical ideas into their own original pieces. After playing a few shows in San Diego, Carpe Noctem sparked interest in an investor. They were given a large sum of money to record their own demo CD. This EP was finished in late 2005, which features the captivating songs “Chasing Yesterday” and “Hollow Thoughts”.
To release their EP, Carpe Noctem planned and executed their very own CD Release Show in the summer of 2006, which had two bands, a DJ, and over 180 fans in attendance. Staying busy, the guys created their very own professional website ( www.CarpeNoctemRock.com ). Also, they were featured on a compilation CD included in No Cover Magazine, and were interviewed for an article in the Fresno Bee.
The guys of Carpe Noctem pride themselves on being not only extremely creative and talented musicians, but also very competent and committed businessmen. They have planned and booked their own shows and managed themselves since their beginning. Their passion for writing and performing music together is what keeps them going, and they are always searching for more opportunities to share this with fans.
