I am here for Friends

About Me

Just a good old boy, never meaning no harm ... Well, what have I been up to? Staying up all night with Amos writing music, watching PBS specials (did you know that FDR married his cousin?!), doing my taxes off and on for a couple days, going on my Wednesdays off to eat Chinese food and read the City Pages, trying to grill out even if it's snowing, and doing my best to stay in touch with the people who make a difference in my life. I'm actually working on my thesis, which is new; it's been a long time since I actually got anywhere on that and it's about time to puut that baby to bed. I joined the International Brotherhood of Bald People after seeing an advertisement for it on the side of a semi while I was driving home. I spend too much time on online games; seriously, all you're doing is changing a string of 1s and 0s somewhere in the sysytem's memory. What a waste. But fun! I'm looking forward to getting outside more and am already thinking about camping and canoeing and fishing and all that 'I grew upon the Iron Range' stuff.

My Interests

Traveling, reading history and philosophy, the New England Patriots, dark beer and red wine, zombie movies, PC games, campfires and bonfires and fireplaces, fishing, tanning, silly summer reading like 'Conan' or Stephen King books, American Spirits, sushi, dressy shirts, FARK.com, hiking with Lisa, living in Uptown, techno and jazz, super right-wing Republican talk radio, Pringles, my god-daughter, 80s rock and the Special Export games.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet more academics and less Edina stay-at-home moms. I'd like to have lunch with Noam Chomsky or George Bush, but not with Paris or Britney. I'd like to hang out with Henery Rollins but I don't think I'd talk much. I want to meet more people from places more exotic than Minneapolis but think that there isn't a much cooler city in the Midwest than we have here. I'd rather run into a Harley gang than a group of peace protesters. I would rather meet a practicing Buddhist than devout Catholic. I'd like to meet more people who can tell me what they think instead of reciting rhetoric. I think both punkers and hippies are weird lifestyle choices but that they are on the right path with the music they listen to. I'd love to meet someone who can tell me how to keep my cat from waking me up at 4:30 every morning. What would MySpace be without silly surveys? Nothing!!

Movies:

The last four things that came from Netflix were 'The Invisible', 'El Mariachi', 'Knocked Up' and 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch'.. Last movie I went to in the theatre was '30 Days of Night'. Wow, that was something like 6 months ago. I have to get out more.

Television:

Not a lot. Pretty bored with TV in general. I heard a guy say once that we should only call it television, not TV. He claimed TV is a nickname and you should only give those to friends, and TV is not your friend. Interesting point. A touch grandiose, but interesting.
