Addicted to electro? Be warned, Twisted Development will not only feed your habit, they will intensify it. Fusing funky, dirty electronic music with diverse and up-to-the-minute styles, this gifted DJing duo is taking Leeds clubbing scene by storm, bringing originality and new life to their genre. Residing at the increasingly successful Purrfect Electro, Twisted Development have brought the night into its own, bringing it forward from old school house to the high status it now has as one of the best electro club nights in Leeds.When the night started out over five years ago it featured local, up and coming DJ's but with a name change and a fresh outlook it has seen appearances from massive names such as Mason,The Loose Cannons,Hook & Sling,Dirty South, Micky Slim,The D.O.N.S,Matt Cooper,Paul Jackson,King Roc, Sweet & Candy and Danny Freakazoid all of which Twisted Development have graced the decks with. Future guests include Martijn Ten Velden, Funkagenda, Mark Knight and Will Bailey, while the resident line-up is just as impressive featuring Viktor Valasko, Jimmy Wade, Incognito and Nick Ostertag.Twisted Development, A.K.A Oliver James and Marcus Stewart, first met on the Leeds circuit, repeatedly bumping into one another at various events and venues. They became great friends both on and off the music scene, remaining tied by their devotion to house music. Marcus was born and raised in Leeds while Oliver is from a small town near Hull and moved to Leeds in early 2002. Music of all kinds has been their passion for as long as they can remember, both having been lured by the decks at an early age. Even before DJing professionally, both have found themselves surrounded by music all their working lives. Oliver used his love of music to land a job as Vinyl Buyer at HMV in Leeds whilst Marcus started out working in bars, DJing on and off on the side.Before combining their talents to form Twisted Development just under a year ago, the pair DJ'd separately all over Leeds at a range of different club nights including Housework at Mission, Glasshouse and Back2mine at My House. As individuals both Oliver and Marcus succeeded in making a name for themselves, earning recognition in their own right.Marcus' first residency was with Purrfect and he played at the first ever Purrfect event back in 2001. It was only in early 2003, when Oliver joined Marcus at Purrfect, that the pair realized their united potential and found their niche. Twisted Development was finally born!Oliver and Marcus cite both DJ and production wise the likes of Paul Woolford,Trophy Twins, Micky Slim,Filthy Rich,John Dahlback,Mark Knight,Martijn Ten Velden, Sebastian Leger,Chris Lake,D-Ramirez,Funkagenda,Danny Freakazoid,Mike Monday and Trentemoller as some of their major influences, but in truth their style is unlike any other. There is a creative uniqueness about Twisted Development that simply cannot be compared to any other current sound. They're edgy, they're versatile and they move with the times. Quite aptly, this electro-inspired collective are musically twisted and their approach is developing all the time.The local media have already been quick to catch on to this double act's potential with The Leeds Guide interviewing them for their Confessions of a DJ feature, due to be printed in the late February edition. The article will come as Twisted Developments first step on the road to national recognition.
As for the future of Twisted Development the only way is up. They're set to get bigger and bigger and, as Purrfect Electro grows, so will they.
