Kamal is a Sanskrit word for lotus. How appropriate. Amna Ali Kamal weaves together aspects of folk, North Indian classical, rock and bossa nova blossoming into an integral fusion that is her own. Amna's stage prescence is natural and intimate.. it's not just the music, it's everything. She is captivating. Amna has been gaining a following in Australia, New Zealand and India, her live performances featuring an ever changing line up of musicians and instruments. Amna grew up in the 80's listening to Aussie rock in between her dad playing Sitar. Since 2000 amna has regularly visited her beloved India to perform and study classical vocal/tabla. In 2005, she completed a contemporary music degree, where she studied under the direction of some of Australia's most renowned jazz musicians. Last year Amna performed at the Brisbane Festival, and recieved national airplay after winning an ABC award for her song 'Porn Addicts' - about violent acts commited against women. Amna is currently based in New Zealand writing and playing gigs over the summer. And.. her E.P 'White Cow' is ALMOST there, plzzz check this space in a couple of weeks my friends and there will be a link to CD baby, baby. Namaste
