Two pianos :: Two minds

*NEWS FLASH* Three new videos, South Kensington 5 a, b and c, are now available to watch on our website - www.jackandbruno.com. Part b has a dark, brewding quality that Jack is pretty fond of.
We're two pianists from London and have formed a free improvisation duo. Two pianos, no score, no agreed framework, and no agreed duration! Our mutual influences are; Keith Jarrett, Glenn Gould, Steve Reich, Shostakovitch, Bach, Chopin, and many others.
We met at Goldsmiths College while on a BMus degree in classical music. We talked about a possible collaboration and in 2006 it became reality.
Since september 2006, we have recorded around 30 sessions, all of which can be heard in their entirety as MP3s on our website by clicking here.
In July 2007, we were picked by ARTHERTZ to share the stage with John Foxx for the opening night of the RetroFuture exhibition at Fulham Palace in London. A DVD of the concert is now on sale on our website. You can see a 3mns excerpt by clicking here.
What's next? Stay tuned and beome our Friends to find out!

What is a score?

I consider a score as a departure point, an "invitation au voyage", an "embarquement pour Cythère", not aa a path. I just let my fingers i.e. my ears do the walking. Who knows whom or what I may enco...

Why I love improvising

I love improvising because it liberates me from what I consider to be the tyranny of the score. I have never been able to be fully faithful to a score. I always take certain liberties with it. I canno...
