About Me

Uptown began in May of 2005 when Joel Pohorence and Rowdy Davis decided to give music one last drunken attempt after the band they were in broke up. Rowdy’s friend and former band mate Rob Copeland had just moved back to town so the three guys get together just to jam. With Rob on guitar and vocals, Joel on drums, and Rowdy on bass, they formed Uptown. The three founding members of Uptown worked up a 15 song set in less than a week. When they started, their sound was an eclectic mix or pop punk, funk, reggae, and ska. They picked up fans all across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana within a few short months. They got together and released four E.P.s, two in a home studio produced by Joel and Rowdy, then two more at the Control Room. Uptown performed on two battle of the bands taking 1st place in one and 2nd place in the next. In December of 2005, Uptown played their farewell show on New Years Eve. Rob had an opportunity to perform and write plays for Broadway in New York. In May of 2006, Uptown got back together in May to perform a one off show. Over the next few months, Rowdy and Joel had talked about getting back together full time, but they wanted to make some changes. Rowdy was tired of playing bass and didn’t feel he could progress musically if he stayed on bass, So Rowdy and Joel started to jam with Rowdy on guitar. Joel was introduced to a bass player by the name of Jeff Lieby. They had talked about playing together and this was the chance. Uptown then got together as a four piece band with Rowdy now on guitar and Jeff filling in on bass. They played their first show as a four piece in November of 2006. In January of 2007, Rob moved back to southeast Texas and Uptown came around in full swing. They played more shows in January 2007 than any other month alone. Since Uptown had gotten back together their sound has moved into a new more mature direction. Now don’t get them wrong, they still love to drink and tell dick and fart jokes. In February 2007, they entered the Control Room studio to record what is to be their finest E.P. yet. Look for many exciting things to come in Uptown’s near future. This is your warning........
