MISSION STATEMENT: The VICT is a nonprofit organization of socially conscious people creating a positive environment where the Virgin Islands culture can be showcased in the DC Metropolitan Area.The Virgin Islands Carnival Troupe Inc. was formed in 2003 by Ivah Chesterfield, Jr. and Renaldo Raymo as a sub committee under the DC Metro Virgin Islands Association. The DC Metro VI Carnival Troupe Inc. is a social and cultural organization based in the DC Metropolitan area. We are in our fourth year of showcasing Virgin Islands culture as an entry in the DC Caribbean Carnival parade which will be held on June 23, 2007. We are proud to share the various awards we have captured, including:? The Spirit of Carnival’ award with the theme “What the world needs now, Love, Peace, Hope & Unity†– June 2003? “Band (Troupe) of the Year†second place- June 2003? ‘Best Float’ – displaying our theme “What the world needs now, Love, Peace, Hope & Unity†– June 2003? Live Band first place – Image Band (VI) –June 2003? Live Band second place – Jam Band (VI) – June 2005? ‘Band (Troupe) of the Year’ first place - June 2006? ‘The Sprit of Carnival’ award for the portrayal of our theme “Discovering Elements of a Caribbean Oceanic Mix†– June 2006? Best DJ- second place –Lee Monsanto (VI) – June 2006Undoubtedly, we could not have such achievements without the support of our troupe members, sponsors, supporters and the past Executive Committee of the DC Metro Virgin Islands Association. The DC Metro VI Carnival Troupe Inc. coordinate a number of activities and events in an effort to expose non Virgin Islanders to our traditions and culture, while keeping them alive among our fellow Virgin Islanders. Some of these activities include:
• Annual Christmas Caroling
• Quarterly food sales
• Summertime bake sales
• Donate used costumes to the Caribbean Student Government at local Colleges and Universities
• Participate in Baltimore Maryland Caribbean Carnival
• Participate in Ft. Lauderdale Caribbean Carnival
• Volunteer-So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E) KitchenThe DC Metro VI Carnival Troupe Inc. views this event as an opportunity to contribute to the marketing of our islands. The DC Metro VI Carnival Troupe Inc. officers are President-Renaldo Raymo, Vice-President- Ivah Chesterfield, Jr., Treasurer-Raquel Joseph, Secretary-Levelle Hedrington, Public Relations-Jacquelyn Miller, Devin Arnold, Carmen Georges and Cherise Thomas, and Webmaster Darryl Potter.Join us as we depict “Rain Don Stop De Carnival†for DC Caribbean Carnival 2007.Remember, there can be only one number one (VICT).
