About Me

It’s bold. . .daring. . .honest and insightful. . . It’s The Diallo Experience, a collage of soulful melodies and spoken word riffs that will keep listeners in a zone of their own from beginning to end. Produced by Quintin X. Coleman, cofounder of Seed Works Records, The Diallo Experience, takes dramatic interpretations of poetry written and performed by spoken word artist Diallo (aka Michael McLendon), and lifts them to unexplored dimensions. The project, recorded primarily in a small room in Coleman’s two bedroom apartment, has created a buzz in Nashville that has music lovers who usually pass over spoken word projects doing a double take. “We just wanted to do a project that was honest and wholesome as well as gritty and soulful,” said Diallo, a native Mississippian who moved to Nashville three years ago to pursue a career in music and acting. The cd includes collaborations with various Nashville artists most of whom are now gaining regional and some national exposure. The list of collaborations includes spoken word artists Stephanie Pruitt and Church, as well as soul duo Descendants of Reality and gospel singer/songwriter Kenny Springs Jr. From spiritually-centered poems like That’s Wzup and Rise to more controversial selections such as Refugee and Mista Sista, The Diallo Experience takes listeners to the modern day speakeasy without them having to leave the comfort of their armchairs or automobiles. “Que’s a genius,” Diallo said. “It even took me a while to realize that he had designed the entire project around giving the listener the experience of hearing our show at a coffeehouse.” Diallo recently appeared as part of an ensemble of some of Nashville’s most gifted singers and actors in Amun Ra Theatre’s Sho’ ‘Nuff Nativity, a Christmas play written and directed by jeff obafami carr. He was recently the featured performer at Lovenoise, Nashville's premiere spoken word venue, and he appeared on the featured poet at the grand opening of Soul Food Cafe' on Jefferson Street.
