Katie Ellen began her performing career as a ballet dancer for the Northern Ballet Theatre. Having always sung it was a natural progression to move into musical theatre playing lead roles in National Tours and West End productions such as Oklahoma, The Phantom of the Opera and Grease. She currently works with children during the week and enjoys encouraging them to explore creativity through dance, drama and voice. She says “It is a wonderful way to have fun and boost ones self esteem!†Katie is a bit of a retro queen-hence the Varga Girls (!) and has always loved the swinging 30’s,40’s and 50’s style. Get her on the dance floor and she doesn’t stop! The same goes for her singing, just ask her neighbour’s! Many great singers and performer’s have inspired Katie in her career starting with Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, Julie London and Anita O’Day, to name a few. Also today’s finest jazz singer’s such as Anita Wardell (the most wonderful Neet in the whole wide world!), Claire Teal, Tina May and Jacqui Dankworth. Again just a few of the talented people in the jazz pot! With the love and support of her family, particularly her Dad, and the amazing Anita Wardell, Katie is very happy to be doing what she loves most- singing and performing. She would like to thank all the talented musicians out there who play so brilliantly, without you there is no music! Let’s go out there and dig-it!
