Extended Network BannersI have been through hell and lived to tell. I have a son that means the world to me and he has had a VERY difficult life since his premature birth. Even with everything I have been through I have still been able to lose 70 pounds and am still losing! Getting hotter by the minute!! LOL I love animals, the outdoors, etc. I am sick of fake people. I want friends that are "real" and I am in return. All around I think I am a great person and a totally loyal-to-the-end friend for those who are loyal to me. I guess thats it for now. Rock on!
Myspace Contact TablesI have 6 Kids....WAIT!!!!! Before you freak out, only one is human the rest are my cats!!ABOUT MY SON: I had Premature Rupture of Membranes(PROM) at 18wks. I was constantly losing amniotic fluid. They wanted to induce me and terminate but we chose not to. They put me on bedrest at 20wks, at home. They said that I could get an infection that could potentially kill me or the baby and that there was nothing they could do for a child who was born before 24 wks. At 24 wks I went to a hospital 2 1/2 hours from home. I was on bedrest in the hospital 2 days before my 30th birthday, 2003. I stayed there until 29 1/2 wks when I had Ethan due to a ruptured Placenta. They did an emergency C-section, October 30, 2003. When Ethan was born his vitals were pretty bad and they didnt expect him to live. They woke me up early from anesthesia so that I could at least see him before he died. When they brought him to me I kissed him and said I loved him. His vitals started to improve at the sound of my voice. They took him away, intubated him and put him on an oscilating ventilator and oxygen. the ventilator shook his whole body. He was 14 1/2 inches long and I could fit his head in the palm of my hand. On Thanksgiving weekend I got a call ( I stayed at the Ronald McDonald House across the street from the hospital) saying that I needed to come over. They told me that Ethans lungs went hard and there was nothing left for them to do and that I needed to get anyone down there that wanted to say goodbye and see him for the last time to come down. I called everyone. A Pastors wife that I knew told me that she got a feeling that this was not the end for him. Early the next morning the doctors called me again and said that in the middle of the night for no apparent reason (we all know why...God) Ethan started to breathe again. the doctor told me that they would not have told me he was going to die if he wasnt. In December, 2003 Ethan had a tracheostomy. When he was six months old, April 2004, he had hernia repair and G-tube placement surgery. At this time they wanted Paul and I to "room in" which is taking care of Ethan ourselves to see if he could come home. The ventilator that he was on at the time had a problem with water collecting in the lines. Paul was changing a diaper and some of that water went into Ethans lungs. He imediately turned blue and we called the nurse in. They had to start CPR because he had basically died. that had happened with the nurses one time before it happened with us. The nurses all told me that God must have a plan for him or He wouldnt keep sending him back. AMEN! At eight months old he had another surgery called a Nissen funduplication for acid reflux. At eleven months old he was able to get out of the hospital and go to a medical foster home that was a half an hour away from our home. He stayed there for six months while I learned how to care for him. Constant suctioning of his lungs, daily trach changes, G-tube and trach site cares, meds, nebulizer treatments, heart monitoring, etc. In March 2005 he came down with RSV. He and I were air lifted to St. Paul Children's Hospital he was on almost 100% oxygen. When he was released from the hospital he was released to me to come home for the first time. In November 2005 he was off of oxygen. In January 2006 he was able to start weening off the ventilator. By May he was off of the vent but still had his trach. We were able to hear his voice for the first time. We started to cap his trach so he could learn to breathe through his mouth and nose instead of his trach. In October 2006, he had the trach removed but the stoma was still open. In February 2007, he had the stoma closed up. Now he just has the G- tube. He has Occupational therapy once a week for learning the things that a normal three year old should know. He has speech therapy once a week because he cant talk. He uses some sign language that I have taught him. He has an Early Intervention teacher that comes once a week and works on feeding because he can only eat pureed foods. He has oral aversion to textures and anything thicker than pudding makes him gag. Not until after he was born did I learn what his name means.....Ethan: a hebrew name meaning Strong, Firm, and Enduring! PRAISE GOD!!!! Ethan is the world to me. He had been through so much and still is the happiest boy in the world. He is what gets me through the day. Without him I would die. Thank you Lord for keeping him with me!!!! Thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ and His healing power, Ethan has done eveything they told me he would not do. Even the nurses said that they stopped putting limitations on him because whenever they said he wouldnt be able to do something, he did it. One nurse said that in her 40 years of NICU experience she has not seen a trached baby drink from a bottle...and he did.
