career diplomat now back from brussels belgium in ankara turkey, currently director of political affairs at the secretariat general for eu affairs, visceral bass player forever and wherever.neither i started to play piano when i was four nor my father bought me a bass when i turned to twelve.
but rock smoothly penetrated through my veins when i was five, while listening to sweet, slade, deep purple, led zeppelin and grand funk railroad with my uncle.i started to learn and play in early 80's in "lycée de galatasaray" along with taylan dedeoglu (lead guitar), murat cekem (lead vocal / keyboard), hayri erdeniz (lead guitar) and murat cimenli (drums). we were crowned as the best high school band for three times. i was also hailed as the best bassist among my peers (good old days!!!).i am highly influenced by ahmet guvenc, firuz soyuer, ilkin deniz, pino paladino, marcus miller and nathan east.i played in more than 1000 live shows and gigs in turkey, russia, congo, france, korea, japan, belgium, netherlands and germany.under the name "hooba!", "hamit osman olcay blues association", we are currently playing with fellow diplomats in "siyah-beyaz" in ankara every friday between 22.00-00.00 hours. the set list consists of some lynyrd skynyrd, rare earth, free, jonny lang, zz top, deep purple, queen, tom petty and similar stuff...i like to listen to deep purple, led zeppelin, rush, van halen, gary moore, toto, liquid tension project, him, porcupine tree, osi, srv, eric clapton, javier vargas, joe bonamassa, ronnie earl, kenny wayne shepherd and so on.i am also jamming with my son deniz, 8 years old, who seems to have a promising electric guitar career.i proudly use 5 string fender jazz, ibanez srx 350 nt, gibson eb-2 (made in 1965!), zoom effect box, rotosound strings, hartke and marshall amplification.
