The Sound of Aircraft Attacking Britain

SAAB

About Me

The loose collective, the Sound of Aircraft Attacking Britain, was formed in 1999 or thereabouts. The first performance under the name SAAB was at the Sightsonic Digital Arts Festival in York, 2001. This is documented in the Sonic Arts Network publication 'Diffusion', March 2002. More recently, under the name 'Watson Bowers and Finch', we performed at Experimentica 2006, a performing arts festival staged by Chapter, Cardiff. After some deliberation, we chose to reinstate the SAAB moniker as this gives us more flexibility with personnel.

My Interests

Band Members: Currently: Richard Bowers - Ian Watson - Nic Finch - John Ruddick -Previously: Tony Gage - Gwilly Edmondez.
Sounds Like: Darkness Visible - 21st October. SAAB presents a twelve-hour-long performance exploring the regions of Hell; the nine 'circles' of Dante's poem Inferno. These concentric circles, leading to the centre of Hell, shape the nine movements of Darkness Visible through which SAAB perform on acoustic instruments, radios, computers and electronics: a slow-moving tapestry of sound and vision. The extreme duration is set to test the limits of the performers' levels of endurance and concentration. Here the action takes place on 2 projection screens and a series of monitors. Each of us have control of the images projected and displayed via switches or note values supplied from our instruments.
