About Me

Bamboo is what they call him when he's out on the street, but back at home he's known as Michael Allicock. The oldest of three brothers and three sisters, the inspiring artist was born on the Fifth of May, 1976 to parents Desree and Dennis Allicock. He was raised by his aunt in a the village of Nabaclis, Guyana, all the while he was drawn to the uprising reggae culture. On February 15, 1993, Bamboo arrived in Houston, Texas to stay with his grandparents. Upon arrival, he searched for the nearest music store, seeking out the culture that was so dear to him. Inspired by artist such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Luciano, Sizzla, and Capleton, Bamboo was eager to feed the community the uplifting music by taking steps toward becoming a D.J. Starting off with a tape deck and speakers, his mission seemed almost pointless. As the reggae world grew, so did his record turning skills, evolving into one of Houston's hottest D.J.'s, making sure the culture music could be heard. Of course, it didn't stop there. Along with his career as a D.J., Bamboo found his place as a recording artist and opened for main stream artist such as Jigsy King and Tony Curtis. He also helped produce local underground artist such as Major Riley, Tremendous, Shaki, Pinta, Kelshe, Cutlass, Danaready, Kaneman, Jah Lion, Stix, Empress Fyah, Dj Supa Neil, just to name a few. Out of this grew one of the most renowned production and promoting companies in Houston, Kingsman Camp. He also puts his visual art skills to work, creating some of the most memorable posters, fliers, business cards, and C.D. promoting artist such as Anthony B, Sizzla, Coco Tea, Richie Spice, Capleton, Turbulance, Bigga Boss, Chrisinti, Marlon Asher, Beenie Man, and Natural Black. Currently, Bamboo is working on his solo album with the help of local recording artist, D.J., and friend, Bigga Boss. They also have a few projects lined up for this new year. He is also the lead promoter for the Annual Houston Reggae Fest, that is being held during Memorial weekend 2007 at Tom Bass Park.
