Santa Lucia LFR its a seven-piece member band that creates an exciting sound that evokes the early days of Latin Funk (Santana, War,
Chakachas etc.) while adding their own blend of funk and rock. This band overwhelms the stage with monstrous horns and bass, polyrhythmic beats, funky breaks, and furious lyrics in English and Spanish.
The music venture off to a lot of different areas with an addictive combination of Nuyorican boogaloo, West Coast style
funk and the ever present Cuban grooves.
Santa Lucia lfr seems to play for fun, the key ingredient. They're like a multiethnic gathering of friends who share one another's music.
Driven to introduce something fresh and original, Santa Lucia lfr., "STL" how the band is better known around, came together in Vancouver, BC at the end of 1999. At the heart of the group is Nicaraguan singer/songwriter German Cantillo. He started out in San Francisco's Mission district "La Mision" as it is known in Spanish, a Latino barrio known as the hot bed of Latin rock artist.,
In 1989 he formed a Latin alternative/rock group called Amor y Odio
(love and hate) finding a small level of success. Right after that he
created a group called The Gman Funk Ensemble, blending funk
and rock with latin grooves.
