About Me
From an early age, Preston Gorman has been involved in music. "I taught myself piano at four," he recalls, "because of [the] movie, Amadeus." Even now, the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remains Gorman's favorite composer. Though his works are obviously more contemporary than those of his classical-age mentor, his beginnings in music and overall inspirations remain the same.
Though he’d been playing piano and composing privately, at home, for some time, Gorman began studying string bass at age eleven, and moved rapidly through the stringed instruments, developing his musicality and sharp ear, as recognized early by his teachers. After completing his two years at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, he has been recognized both solo and in large ensembles as an outstanding performer, known both for his unique style and mature emotion in his performance. Locally, Gorman has made a name for himself composing and performing his own works on solo piano.
Gorman's talents, however, extend beyond his flowing melodies and complex harmonies. He has appeared in various films and onstage productions, such as Hurly-burly. Mark Audess, of Leper Island Productions, says, "Preston works with the skill and efficiency needed to really excel in... film."
Gorman's drive has taken him in many directions, both in theater and music, but none as great as his composing. His compositions paint clear, vivid scenes, and have appeared on the soundtracks to various films, such as The House of Bedlam (GMD Films, 2006), and Connaissance Charnelle (MM Media, 2006). His compositions have also been featured at The Erie Horror Film Festival, in 2005. His compositions paint clear, vivid pictures, with enchanting, dancing melodies and a surprising depth for his years.
"Preston has the look, the drive, and the talent to be a star." -Joe Hurley (Irish Echo, New York).
"His scores will add to the production value of a low budget film instantly. And, his experience in acting is a much added bonus." -Mark Audess (Leper Island Productions).
