In January 1996 I left the field of life insurance to enter a new world I had never heard of - viatical settlements with Life Partners, Inc. Who could have known how much a career change would impact someone!!! Before that I was the typical married housewife who thought HIV was a bad thing but it wasn't part of my world so it wasn't my problem. I began reading files on people from every walk of life - gay, straight, medical professionals, soldiers, housewives, children, married people - and realized two things. 1st the one thing they had in common was crossing paths with a devasting disease because of no fault of their own and 2nd that it could as easily be me or one of my family members or friends as it was them. By this time I was divorced and back in the single world and realized I was taking as many risks with my health as the people I had "blamed" for being responsible for their own illness. I think the lowest I have ever felt was when I had to call the mother of a 19 year old soldier for information on him and knew I was talking to a mother who would one day soon have to bury her child. I came home to my 2 young sons and told them we had to have "the talk" whether they liked it or not because I never wanted to be in that mother's shoes. While at LPHI I had the opportunity to become familiar with so many wonderful insureds. I shared their happiness at winning against this disease, their heartache when they lost a loved one to it and deeply mourned their deaths when they lost their battle. In May 2005 I became licensed as a viatical broker and opened my business Today Live Well. I was at the point in life where I no longer wanted the structure of an 8-5 job but I could not give up my love for helping people with HIV make their life the best it possibly can be. I take a personal interest in each person that comes to my business for assistance and do everything in my power to get them the best and most fair offer available for their policies.
