Stockholm Strings with Oskar Schönning

Here's the idea, quite simple really. A string quartet, to perform live with a jazz quartet. The songs are of the penmanship of the composer and bass player Oskar Schönning. The music is arranged and re-composed by pianist Jonas Östholm.Stockholm Strings is a classically schooled quartet, but is often to be found in productions and on stage of a more pop- or rock- like setting. Amongst the various projects they have been a part of, they finalized together with Brian Wilson the legendary Beach Boys record "Smile," which had been released "half completed" in 1967. Together with the ground-breaking bassist Carol Kaye, who was already to be heard on the Beach Boys 1966 release "Pet Sounds," the Stockholm Strings belong to the few female musicians who have taken part in the Beach Boys' otherwise so male dominated productions and network of musicians.The first title on the album "Smile" is a song entitled "Heroes and Villains," and which lent its' name to the duo constellation which Oskar Schönning and Emil Strandberg formed in 2003. The duo, which was eventually to grow into a jazz quintet / quartet, has released two albums under the name and leadership of Oskar Schönning.One quartet from a classical and pop-infused world, the other more allied with jazz. The arrangements of sonic craftsman Jonas Östholm maybe join these two ventures in what out there might be called "art music".. .
