I soon found out after I introduced them on stage at Club
Soda.
Imagine a ship that sails to shore and disembarks a boatload of
strange individuals led by a midget who clears the way with a lantern
in the dark of night. The bizarre, the grotesque all intermingle to
make their journey through a strange land. Ro. is the one named as the
leader of this band of misfits that flashes cartoon characters belonging
to a dark place somewhere between here and nowhere. Wearing high
elevated footwear he appears very tall and most impressive in
costume.
As for the Virtuous Villains, they are so only in name. The band
seems mostly keen on some sort of mischief and their act compares
more to that of conquerors and not of being conquered. I find a fat
ruler with a moronic look, who sits on an improvised throne
and watches the entire ritual. Ro. captivates the audience with his
clear lyrics and extravagant movements…….
What I think of Ro. and the Virtuous Villains after seeing them
perform is that their theatricality will get them going places....... It is a seeing
experience that brings a new outlook to lovers of the strange &
bizarre. In my mind's eye I see a strange caravan trailing through an
old dirt road. Ro. is accompanied by an aged showman who leads the
villains. The beauty and the ugly
clash together. Displays of utter shriek horror cover the senses.
