About Me

John Holbrook is in the process of photographing the death row inmates in both Texas and Florida. This exhibition entitled, 'Voices from Death Row' will begin it's multi-national tour in Oslo, Norway in the Fall of 2008.------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------The internationally known art work of Fort Worth,Texas-based photographer John Holbrook was recently revisited by the CNN network. His latest appearance featured his work on a recent ongoing project featuring the juxtaposition of everyday people within a religious context using adherent iconography. Holbrook first appeared on the network in an interview with esteemed reporter Jeannie Moos. Their rather interesting exchange took place at the internationally acclaimed art exhibit in New York City which was entitled “Jesus 2000”. Holbrook’s original photographic images were selected from thousands of prospective international candidates, and were ultimately described as being, “…one of the Spiritual Jewels of this historic event”. Curator Sister Wendy Beckett (BBC, PBS) felt a personal connection to the work and has certainly prioritized the photographs accordingly. The acclaimed “Jesus 2000” show has since exhibited in Chicago, St. Louis, and Baltimore; with other cities slated for selected openings, and an eventual tour of Europe and Asia is now in the works. Holbrook’s various photographic images have been published and circulated to over 69 countries, and all of the work is authentic in the respect that it incorporates no digital manipulation. These photographs are meant to provoke a spiritual introspection within the individual, as well as affecting the viewer with a deeper intellectual subtext.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light and not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves: who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us: it's in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ~Nelson Mandela~
